Wear your earmuffs??

I bought a new hat last week but it's about 2 sizes too large, so I look sort of like a dork with a camera. If you see a dork with a camera downtown, shuffling around at lunchtime or thereabouts, it's probably me.

My public image probably suffers because of my photography. The sacrifices I make for you, a bunch of people I don't even know! I truly am an American Hero.

Your pay raise is in the mail. We're doubling your base.

Oh my, it's getting deep in here. :P

That's great to see the first floor taking shape! Hard to believe it's now a year and a half after realadvancedin616 tipped us off about drilling back in the summer of 2005. This shot was taken shortly afterward. I lost my picture of the original drilling when I switched photo sites.

"River House Condominiums will be bringing in a tower crane for their project next week (February 5-9, 2007). The City of Grand Rapids will be closing the two north (westbound) lanes of Bridge Street for the week. The two south (eastbound) lanes of Bridge St. will be narrowed to one eastbound and one westbound lane."

I wonder if the cold weather will affect assembly of the crane this week? Anyone know how hydraulics and diesels do in this kind of weather?

We get that cold quite regularly here in Alberta. Diesels don't run very well in that weather unless you have bloc heaters installed. We have to plug in diesels anytime it gets down to zero or below. Some good ones will start in that kind of weather, but most need some help.

Don't know about Hydraulics. But it would not surprise me to see a diesel engine kept running non-stop even through the night during extremely cold weather as shutting them down runs the risk of mechanical failure due to parts freezing up. The alternative method to keeping effects of cold weather at bay is the use of special engine heaters. The test weight truck my Dad drives features a built in engine heater.

Crane update:

The new crane will be built during the week of 2-19. The crane and company that will assemble it are coming from Texas. They didn't want to drive through the snow/cold this past weekend and wanted to start on 2-12. The Boat Show is that week and the City didn't really want to close an additional lane down that week, so 2-19 it is. I have been told that this will not offset any current construction schedules.

Ok, you need to move back already. You know, I just learned something today, and that is there is this techtonic thingamajig under the lower peninsula that acts like a gargantuan coiled spring, that when activated, will release the big mitten, allowing it to scoop up all the people in Arizona and every other state that left Michigan and want to come back.

I think the only reason it hasn't been used yet though is because of fear of further destroying our inner cities due to g-force.

Why move to the tropics when the tropics can move to you? ;)

I drove by Riverhouse last night on my way back from Little Mexico (it was packed) and they had lights on at the construction site and were working full steam ahead.

Anybody notice the old Riggy's bar on Bridge? It has a new facade, windows and looks like a pretty cool place!

Joe
