Hampton Roads Projects Listing

Recommended Posts

This thread is for the archiving of all projects in the Hampton Roads metro (excluding Norfolk and Va. Beach). I will be continually updating this list and I will be providing links to each particular projects "discussion thread". This thread will not be open for comment, and will only serve as a location where one can quickly get an overview of all projects going on in Hampton Roads. This is very much a work in progress, i'll be adding the other cities in time.

Suffolk Projects and Construction

A. Centre 800

"This project is planned for the 800 block of West Washington St. on the site of a former car lot. The four-story building on West Washington Street will have 114 condos. It will have retail shops on the first floor, offices on the second floor and condos on the third and fourth floors. The one-, two-, and three-bedroom condos will start at $200,000 and some may be rented out. The building, on nearly four acres, also will have a two-story parking garage with space for 500 cars. A swimming pool and rooftop garden are planned for the top of the parking deck. The project is expected to be finished in early 2007." (details courtesy of the Virginia Pilot).

B. Harbourview Towne Center

(info obtained from the Divaris website)

"Designed by CMSS Architects as a traditional Town Center with a grid-street pattern, Harbourview Towne Center will range in size from 800,000 square feet to 1.2 million square feet, with a combination of office, retail and residential space in two- to four-level buildings. The architecture will have the clean, classical look of a traditional city center, although there will be some variety in terms of each building taking on its own character and style. Opening in early 2008, Harbourview Towne Center currently is at an advanced planning stage. "

This will be arguably Chesapeakes first urban development. Situated a mile from downtown Norfolk and Portsmouth this development will include a 12-story condo tower (or towers, this part is unclear at the moment) as its centerpiece. It will also have 350 condominium units, 230 apartment units, 130,000 square feet of office space and 40,000 square feet of retail space. The condo units will be priced in the $350,000 range. This $200 million development is slated to break ground in the summer of 2006 with a completion date of sometime in 2008.

B. The Gateway at SoNo

" Two mixed-use buildings with 84,000 square feet of retail and office space . They see storefront opportunities for restaurants, boutiques and a pharmacy. In front of the building, developers hope for a landmark water fountain, art fairs and possibly bricks engraved with residents’ names.

Down Bainbridge Boulevard, the group wants to build up to six residential buildings with 108 “mansion-style” condominiums, each with a target price of $250,000 . To stick with the architectural design of nearby neighborhoods, each part of the building would be a different color."
