Wow, that is very Dubai/Vegas like. I wonder where they plan on getting all that funding from. That seems like it would be a big risk for any developer. I think it would do wonders for the area though. If this new, very Vegas like casino development comes to fruition I think it might usher in a whole new level of development in the area.

I've seen that proposal before.

Regardless of whether that particular development happens, there seems to be enough stuff going on in that area of Mississippi to keep things booming. There's that proposal mentioned in another thread for DeSoto County adjacent to Tunica. I guess if enough things are thrown around, something sticks.

Even before the hurricane, Tunica was larger than the the MS coast in terms of gambling revenue and was the 3rd largest gambling destination outside of Vegas and Atlantic City. Next door DeSoto County as well was the fastest growing southern county outside of Georgia and Florida.

And I don't think any of this hurts Memphis as it's all part of the same msa, and most casino employees live in Memphis as do most construction workers.

According to the map on the site:

the project would be the southernmost casino in the county. Most casinos have tried to be on the north end to be nearer Memphis. I think that's a good sign that the area is maturing into an independent destination.

Anyway, here's hoping some cotton farmer gets rich. :P

That dome over the facility will be a sight to see for sure...

I've been to Memphis a few times, I even had a buddy who lived in Olive Branch while he was going to school out there, but I have never actually made it over to Tunica before. I think with this development and further growth around the area in general it will become an awesome tourist-grabbing destination in itself.

The aggressive development psyche that exists within the gambling development arena never ceases to amaze me. How many gamblers are there out there? When will this insane gambling development end? It seems that in this country, the only truly imaginative, and daring development is taking place in major gaming destinations. Why can't similar projects take place without gambling as the primary driving force?

I agree with you. It probably has something to do with the incredible revenue generated by casinos. It is an industry which does, in fact, prey upon the gullibility and avarice of the general public. The $$$$$ taken in by these places make building such vast pleasure domes mere child's play for the casino companies. Little doubt about the Golden Goat factor with gambling in general, but one has to admit that these companies are, as you say, more willing to take risks with design. I just hope that this design won't be compromised or dumbed down because it is in a "secondary market." If you look at the first generation of casinos in Atlantic City, they were all uninspired boxes. Wait.....they are still uninspired boxes. In any event, time will tell what sort of investment $$$ flow into the state from the casinos, but this might be a good indication of the possible unstinting nature of future development.

True. This is would still be an amazing project without the casino which makes a few rich, but ruins the lives of so many. Even ruins a few of those who do become rich.

The snow park being propsed will be the only year round ski resort i know of in the south. It will also have the only domed golfcourse in the world so those should bring in the big bucks.
