Well, its official, the last of the Thomasville Furn plants to close

I saw on the news tonight were the last remaining TFI plant is closing its doors. It is unbeleivble that 10 years ago they were the backbone of the City's economy employing approximatley 4500 people and today they almost cease to exist. The office will remain open; but for how long?

Since NO Thomasville Furniture is built in Thomasville any longer, maybe they'll change the name. Beijing Furniture; kind of has a ring to it, don't ya think?

This news is simply sickening. The very sad part is that the exact same thing is taking place everywhere in the nation and especially affecting small town U.S.A. In the Upstate of SC, the textile industry has all but left, taking tens of thousands of jobs workers had held onto for many decades - even generations. Now technology is being outsourced in a major way, with billions of dollars going into Asian and Indian investments. Amazing how we let this happen.

It's a shame that this is happening. For decades, if you wanted "QUALITY" furniture, people thought of North Carolina. Now, people are more concerned with buying cheap, low-quality, put-it together yourself furniture from overseas. Other countries have been allowed to flood our markets with these inferior products and now good hard-working folks and the vibrant communities they have built are paying the price. Maybe they can open enough " Big Box" stores in Thomasville to employee everyone who have lost their manufacturing jobs to overseas.

I agree. It's a shame that this region was known for furniture among other things, is losing all of it's work to cheap crap overseas.

Maybe some skilled workers can get together and still make furniture as a specialty alternative. If there is the clientel to to build for of curse.
