Panama amazes me... Up until about a week ago, I thought Panama was your typical Central America city... rather impoverished. Panama seems very wealthy!

Cool pictures! I spent about four years of my childhood there, so these bring back lots of memories. I loved going to the observation deck at the Miraflores Locks, and I can make out my old 'hood in the background of a couple of those pics.

Panama City looks awesome. I especially like the picture of the skyline from the Panama Bay. It really shows a good panoramic view of the city.

I love those tropical looking skylines with all the highrise apartment and condo towers with the ocean in the background, like Rio, Sao Paulo, Hong Kong, Honolulu, etc. One of these days I'll make it to see one in person...

Well, after an extensive Google image search on Latin American cities, I must ammend my initial observation above: Panama City is - not possibly - but by far Latin America's very best skyline!

I've been to Panama quite a few times... it's quite a remarkable place to take a vacation.

The capital Panama City (as you can see) is quite cosmopolitan.. with a great nightlife.. .but also has a lots of nice historic areas.

Panama City is centrally located within the country so there is so much to do only within a few hours of it.

Close by, you can see:

* Beautiful islands off the Pacific

* Rain Forest

* For $50 you can fly to Bocas Del Toro, a nice island chain off the Atlantic side of the country, where there is great diving, snorkelling, surfing

* The Panama Canal - one of the most amazing engineering wonders of the world..

Like most countries, there are a few areas to avoid, but for the most part, it's pretty safe..

The local currency is the dollar (but they call them balboas)... I speak Spanish but you can usually get by with English... it's a great.. and for the most part, you will not be overrun by other tourists... the Panamanians are really friendly...
