New Greenville developments

Currently, I don't see the need for a thread on that scale.  Greenville is definitely growing, but at least our proposed highrises can still fit onto one page.

If more announcements are made I may change my mind on this one. :)

You don't have to limit it to highrises. It can catalogue all development in a more organized way than this thread, which is what I had invisioned.

Drilled down and found some other information on Main & McBee:

Floor Plans:

CGI Renderings:

Larger Artist's Rendering:

Is this project still on, does anyone know? I presume it is since the sign on the property hasn't been there for too many months.

Well you can't cry over something that isn't there anymore. And tell me this. How tall does this thing supposed to be? On rendering, there is seven floors and on another there there is ten.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'd say 7, if I had to guess, but you're right. One document shows the building at 10 floors and the artist's rendering and floor plan document shows the building at 7 floors. Very odd - I guess all the details aren't complete yet :)

I think it is is a dispute witht he Historical Preservation commitee over the demolition of the Kress building that used to stand on that site.

I think the hold up is getting sufficient pre-leasing. This building proposal has been around awhile.

Found a rendering of the new Hampton Inn & Suites at River Place on the Hampton Inn Web Site:

his-riverplace.jpg

This gives some hint towards the cascading fountains that extend out of River Place toward the Reedy (across from the Peace Center Ampitheatre). It looks great!

River Place is going to be one awesome centerpiece for downtown!

As part of the Reedy River Master Plan Vision for River Place, I had seen where it was recommended that the Peace Center Ampitheatre be modified to showcase some fountains (similar to the Bellagio (Click Here) in Las Vegas, NV) which would be lit various colors and choreographed to shoot off to classical/jazz/etc. musical movements and to do so in patterns mimicing the Liberty Bridge.

Does anybody know whether or not this is still part of the overall plan for this area along the Reedy?

Edit: The Bellagio Fountains were the product of Wet Design (Click Here for their Portfolio)

I'd LOVE to see something like this. It would simply be cool. B)

One last item before I get some shuteye:

Does anybody know what's being done in front of the Insignia Financial Buildings (Liberty One and Liberty Two) on Beattie Place/College Street? It looks like some exterior landscaping and patio/water feature work is being done to improve that area, but it's difficult to tell exactly what's being done.

Yes, this development is still a go. As vicupstate said, it is only waiting on enough pre-leasing before going ahead with construction.

BTW, that rendering is out of date. It was the original drawing released in 2001 and now there is a newly modified rendering showing a limestone exterior as opposed to a red brick veneer. It was in either the Greenville Journal or GSABusiness Journal, I can't remember which.

The plan called for 8 stories to be built on that site

There was a press release several months ago in which information was given about this work. What you are witnessing is a drastic improvement to the front of both Liberty One and Two towers and the parking garage between them. It will make that stretch of sidewalk more pleasent to drivers and also more pedestrian friendly. :)

There was a post or two about this somewhere previously.

I overheard rumors last night that Publix has chosen the former Woolworth building at North Main and West Washington for a new store. Publix has been building downtown stores, some atleast 28,800 square feet, in some of its markets in recent years, and it will not suprise me if they do here in Greenville.

I do not know how much exactly the square footage is for the former Woolworth's. I doubt it can be larger than 20,000 square feet. Should a supermarket go in, it may require some expansion. Publix would do well with a store the size of their Simpsonville-Fairview Road store. Any supermarket that comes to downtown should have an in-store pharmacy.

Thanks!

I rather prefer the brick exterior over the limestone, myself. That's a pitty.
