  1. I think that this building does indeed look like a school. The problem is that the school typology, for whatever reason, has digressed to take on the characteristics of a minimum security detention facility. So when someone says that it looks like a school, they are showing that they have been conditioned by this morphed typology. The only thing missing is the chain link fence that surrounds the yard (playground). Take a look at nearly every new school building, particularly those that have been built in small rural towns - they are prisonesque architecture. I was just admiring one

  3. At the AIA event at Wealthy Theater last night, Craig Nicely gave a planned opening date of July 1, 2013. A couple other interesting tidbits from his talk off the top of my head: --They are saying they will have the first in the nation experimental kitchen designed for children. --They have already dug the geothermal wells which are expected to provide for 75+% of the heating and cooling needs of the project. --They salvaged wood beams from the Sonneveldt produce building that was torn down that will be reused for the beams in the outdoor market canopy and the 2nd story outdoor deck/eati

  4. elementary schools and middle schools should spark creativity, i think the building should look as craqzy as possible like the Guggenheim had sex with a childrens museum.

  5. ^^^ This is spot on. Trying too hard to be cool is a bad idea. Do we know who masterminded this rebranding? If so, I'd love to contact them in a polite way and offer some constructive criticism. If we all did so, they might reconsider.

  7. I know this probably should belong to the Rail Improvement thread, but the new intermodal yard officially broke ground at the airport. http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/news/2012/05/02/norfolk-southern-breaks-ground-at.html Once this is completed, the old yard will be out of the way for the BLE construction!
