  5. I would really like to see this one break ground this year. It will be named after Roy Moore, Elvis' guitar player who had a recording studio on the lot. I am watching Heartbreak Hotel on TCM and made a screencap of Elvis and Moore....

  6. Just wanted to say how impressive Charlotte is. Here for two nights for the Belk Bowl (UVA ‘72). Saw the Hornets last night at the Spectrum and the game today at BOA Stadium. Your city is incredible! And growing rapidly it appears! You are very fortunate to be a part of it all happening!

  11. My inaugural drive along the Monroe Expressway US 74 toll road. Took me 8 minutes at 65-70 mph from I-485 to US 601 exit north of downtown Monroe. That is time savings of at least half with all the lights I missed. First 12 photos heading down to Monroe from I-485 to US 601 exit. Then I went up US 74 Business which did indeed seem to have less traffic on it and got back on Unionville Indian Trail Road exit which they call Lake Park (I think they need to add the road name) back up to I=485. The brick walls are really nice as are all the bridges that are labeled. I would say 2/3 o

  12. A couple of shots of uptown Charlotte in 1965, the late 70s and today from roughly the same angle. The hospital has grown so much and you notice how taller buildings started to go up in the 70s. You can also see how urban renewal leveled many neighborhoods around uptown. This made way for the future I-277. They lost so many old buildings and homes in those neighborhoods, but I guess that’s the price of progress. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. I think my favourite part of this tower is the impact it should make on views from Bearden park. It will increase the 'hemmed in' feel especially looking towards the Morehead area, and the only real gap of any large scale will be directly over the Knights'.

  14. Clarksville is referred to as the Queen City here in Middle Tennessee / Western Kentucky. It is the old times reference to "Queen of the Cumberland" or "Queen City of the Cumberland". There are many "Queen City _____" businesses there, etc. And that concludes today's history lesson! lol

  15. The original short term parking is closed, but the exit will remain open until Jan. 6 to allow any parked cars to exit. Demo/replacement will begin soon after Jan. 6 As others have said, the administration building will be built on top (right) of the new Terminal parking garage and the pad for the hotel will be constructed during phase II. I believe the portion on the right will built first

  17. My wish is to see more protected bike lanes designed and built throughout the downtown area. My other wish is the city of Nashville and the NCDC join forces to create a design competition to reconstruct the Broadway Viaduct into a more complete, urban street with a design and structure that would be iconic for the city.

  29. Some of us in this thread have been aware of the curtailment of the Music City Star Friday evening service. I knew this all along, but I felt that it might have been irrelevantly technical (rather than technically irrelevant), to this topic. Positive Train Control (PTC), gives the engineer an auditory countdown to act if danger looms. If the train is headed toward a curve at too high a speed, for instance, the system will warn the engineer. If the engineer fails to take remedial action in a timely fashion, the computer takes control and stops the train. Railroads, complaining it is co

  30. A nice article on Bill Finger, CDOT Traffic guru, who passed away this week.. "Finger told the Observer’s Dianne Whitacre about the time he was on a weekend bike ride and encountered a traffic jam at Randolph and Sharon Amity roads. Finger pulled over, used his city key to open the roadside cabinet that controls the traffic signal and began operating the light manually.According to that article, Finger ended up explaining to police officers why some guy in spandex shorts was monkeying around with the traffic lights — a task made tougher because he didn’t have his city ID." https://

  31. Though I think that the new Duke Power Tower will most likely be built more as a complementary tower to DEC, I feel like LU1 makes for a nice neighbor. I believe that the up triangles of the pyramid will complement the down triangles of DEC, especially when they are lit up at night.
