  1. I have often thought if you could get Denny's to put up naming rights and call it Grand Slam Park. That would be the coolest named park in all of minor league.
  2. We'll, I hope that little hint means we have a Flour Field (ish) ballpark coming to the Grain District?
  3. Spartanburg should at least have a Lexus dealership.
  4. What I don't understand about the City is they have the ability to add to these annexed properties ( Olivia Springs etc.) by the 75% rule ( land value and number of parcels). However, I have never known of a single instance where the City exercised this option to fill in some of the properties that should be in the City. I think Olivia Springs has almost 100 new homes annexed with an average value of around $180-200K . That means the City could annex 25 parcels nearby of similar value but choses not to do so?
  5. Has anyone heard an update on this project? It has been very quiet for a long time.....
  6. There is a group including Bill Barnett that is looking at developing the current County offices site on N Church St. across from the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. There would be a convention center ( 6 million appropriated in the General Assembly fund), restaurants and housing/hotel potential. Possibly a sky bridge connecting to the current Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. This could be an awesome development and significantly change that entryway into downtown.
  7. That's a statistic that you have to be careful with. Not many people are going to report a stolen ham or bottle of this or that. They want even know when its happening. They slow bleed the stores to death. Inventory is done and its like, what? I am hopeful that there will be some type of process that will help control this problem and the store will be successful, but I'll believe it when its been tested with time.
  8. I don't think the volume of business will be the problem. I think that the South side will rob the store blind and it will be forced to close due to the amount of pilferage.
  9. The problem here is the two main sewer lines that run along side the creek. I don't think DHEC, the Army Core or SSSD would allow the pipes to be under water. It might be possible to control the flow of the creek and add small 3-4' water fall drops along a pedestrian trail that connected to the North side.
  10. This project is now underway. The job site trailer and grader have arrived on scene and the silt fence is installed. This is one corner that will be greatly improved by the removal of the old foundations and a new structure built.
  11. I noticed that one of the old Spartan Grain Buildings was being torn down behind the AC Marriott today. It is likely just an effort to clean up the site, but still good to see that portion cleaned up. This site needs some serious attention.
  12. The DRB drags out these projects way too long. The Cabana Inn and the Travelodge would still be eyesores if they used a different color brick, a few windows were changed or the building was set back another 6 feet from the Street. The changes the DRB is requiring is wearing out this developer without significantly improving this project. I don't understand why they can't approve construction with a foundation permit and begin work while fine tuning color choices or small items before a final permit is issued. Lets not forget that the DRB approved a 10' concrete wall around 2 acres of the AC Marriott parking and a swimming pool on Main St. They also approved storage containers on Main St. for the Freight yard. Well we know about that developer and why it was approved with little discussion don't we.......
  13. The DRB beats these projects to death. I don't think they realize or care how much you have to go through to do one of these projects. You have to meet Building code, urban code, fair housing, ADA, Fire Code, Franchise requirements, etc. etc. Then the good ole boys at DRB want to kick you around for 6 months. I think they do as much harm as good in many cases.
  14. I hope they have good security. Theft plagued the last store and I anticipate the same problem will exist if measures aren't taken to prevent it.
