  1. Did I see on Wiki that TAP is going to Bradley? Any news on it?
  2. I heard that someone will build a casino in East Hartford at the old Showcase site. Living around the area growing up (Around the Sunset Ridge area), I think they should get well paying jobs in the town - NOT A CASINO!!!
  3. Interesting... a casino at Bradley International.
  4. I'm wondering if the new Eastern Airlines would fly into Bradley. I heard rumors that two other defunct airlines will come back too.
  5. Beerbeer, it would be nice to see Aer Lingus at Bradley. I hope it will be the first of many international airlines...(I would love to see Air Jamaica at Bradley, too along with Ryanair.)
  6. How is the commuter rail project doing? I just hope something will create a few more commuter rail for Hartford.
  7. Reason: I hope the NHL does come back. Whenever I wear my Whalers jersey to Lightning fans, I get comments on them. I believe Quebec and Hartford will have moved teams (I hope Carolina). 8. Yard Goat is a railroad term of a locomotive that switches cars in a freightyard. I like the name. Minor league teams are suppose to be kid friendly or family friendly.
  9. I hope soon, Bradley will get at least a flight to Jamaica and maybe to Poland. If the cricket hall of fame owners ever got serious and build a building (near the new baseball stadium) with a few pitches (fields) for tournaments maybe a few flights will help. I've read that next to Chicago and New York, they are more Polish in CT. I hope we'll see longer flights...
  10. mr2448 Posted Today, 03:29 PM QUOTE (JimSawhill @ Jan 8 2009, 03:14 PM) GHartford: The Amory line is the railline that goes from East Hartford up through South Windsor - you can see it from Rt 5 - through East Windsor to the Hazzardville section of Enfield. It crosses into Mass at East Longmeadow (near the old Milton-Bradley plant) and continues into Springfield. It was built by the Connecticut Central and then it was the New England Railroad and then the New Haven. Now the line is operated by the Connecticut Central to East Windsor Hill and by the Central New England to Enfield. The line from the state Line to Springfield is abandoned, but CENZ, MassDot and ConnDot are trying to return rail service and use it for frieght, and emergency passenger car movements (in case of derailments, etc). You can get a good view of the line as it crosses Route 140 in Somers. Some track is still down and it looked like it use to be double tracked here. Mr2448: I believe it was double track there as it was the site of the Hazzardville depot. I would love to see commuter service on it!!

  12. I hope they'll use the Connecticut Southern line for the Passenger service between Hartford and Manchester. They still need to rebuild the midland route.
  13. I hope the busway will be scrapped. I'd still like to see trains going to Willimantic and beyond and I'd love to see if the rumor of the Amory line being rebuilt is true!!
  14. What I'd like to see is someone like RyanAir come to BDL along with JetBlue. I wonder what happened to that guy who proposed a BDL to London flight.
  15. I know I would love to see some condos on Consitution Plaza, apartments at the old Hilton site and a condo/marina on East Hartford's side of the Connecticut River. Also, I'd love to see condos/rental units where the old HB Davis/'The Butt ugly building' is. I would love to see more condos/apartments in downtown East Hartford, too.
  16. The North Airline Rail Trail would be nice for the trackage from Willimantic to Thompson Chaplin and Scotland could have station and so could Chaplin. In Thompson, it could either go to Douglas Franklin to Boston or it could go north on the P& W to Worcester. East Thompson was the site of the 4 train accident. A local freight and an express freight was put on the same track. The result of the head on crash was that the Eastern State Express (going to Portland Maine via Worcester), derailed and the the Norwich Steamboat express crashed into the ESE. Only 3 deaths with that accident. Anyway, the casinos would like to buy the Midland for passenger service - and I know P&W, CSO and NEC would love to use it to. Penn Central illegally pulled up the track. Ella Grasso told them they couldn't, but one night they pulled it out. Ella wanted the tracks back but PennCentral filed bankruptcy. Truthfully, the railroad wasn't abandoned until 1990.
  17. Lets see...Hartford-Vernon-Willimantic-Plainville to Worcester. Of course we would need to REBUILD the midland route but I can see multiple benefits from that.
  18. MadVlad: BAA is a publicity owned company. When it was owned by the British government, it was called British Airport Authority. One of my mutual funds had some BAA stock in it. JimS
  19. I still would love to see someone start a mom & pop business selling books. IF Border's and B&N doesn't want to be in Hartford, someone should. I'd call it 'Huntington's of Hartford'. I would sell maps and books plus have a small cafe. Not only that -- an open mic night, meetings for book clubs andmeeting space for other groups. JimS
  20. ctman: What's the TAKING CARE CENTER? JimS
  21. That's STUPID!! The YMCA is building a new building here -- and it'll have a pool. I guess the YWCA can still be used. (And I remember when the Y had clothes optional swimming there!!) JimS
  22. Grock: The YMCA lacks a pool? What a dumb thing to do -- is the other YMCA still open? Downtown needs a gym with a pool -- the Hartford's YWCA has a pool. JimS
  23. Hmmm... What I'd like to see at H21 are small mom & pop stores -- with names from the past! I'd love to see someone open up a bookstore there called Huntington's and if the Savitt family agrees -- a jewerly store called Savitt. Just think of what could be - maybe even a varity store called Sage-Allen. JimS
