Does anyone know why the Riverfront Hotel at 131/Ann St. is being painted white and purple? -

New video on The Image Mill Facebook page that shows the cinema reel at night. Beautiful stuff. Check it out if you're heading out for a final look at the Top 25. Artist is Scott Hessels of Grand Rapids/Singapore. Entry is "The Image Mill". It's a zoetrope cinema reel that is powered by the waterfall outside of Ford Museum. Sustainable art! Nothing like seeing natural resources power something so peaceful and beautiful. If you feel like voting for this, you can text 27061 to 878787. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Scott-Hessel...58943898?ref=ts Enjoy the art tonight!

ah, that's right. still amazed they razed that other place! What a different world that must be to raze a 10,000+SF home for something else!
-
If you go to Lyon Square tonight, then be sure to take the short walk over the bridge to check out the exhibits near the Ford. Scott Hessel's sustainable cinema reel, The Image Mill, is up and running and should be lit at night, too. He's got the zoetrope (original cinema wheel) going using only the waterfall to power the wheel (and the light that is powered by the movement of the wheel). Learn more about Scott's exhibit and see some terrific short videos on the piece here: http://www.dshessels.com/projects/Imagemill/image_mill.htm or here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Scott-Hessel...ll/147658943898

Whatever happened to the big compound that Rich DeVos owned on Macatawa? It was torn down, but did anything go up to replace it?

Probably a lot of acreage with this parcel, perhaps even the water? House they're buying is owned by Maria's family. Beautiful setting over there.

Very excited to share a sneak peek at what Scott Hessels is doing for ArtPrize Nice mention of him in today's GR Press, too http://www.mlive.com/entertainment/grand-r...tion_deadl.html

Connects to RDV's Ada compound, Windy Hill. To the left of the cemetery is the estate of the late Jay Van Andel.

Calling all artists!![/size] Local First is seeking a local artist to design the poster for the 6th Annual Local First Street Party presented by Founders Brewing to be held on Saturday, June 13.. Last year

FYI, When I said community/special event, I meant private events that the DeVos' are involved with.
-
It's my understanding that the photo is of Doug & Maria DeVos' property that they're building for community groups to use. Have heard it termed "The Shack". Believe the intention is to open the grounds up to inner city/nonprofit-types to use for rec-related events; great gift if you ask me. VanderWeides and Dick DeVos also have similar rec-facilities on their private properties; again, for private and special event use.

Just to be clear: Local First is not going out of business. The vendor that maintained their gift certificate program, CertifiChecks, is going out of business. Lot of rumors circulating about LF being in financial trouble, and that's false.
-
CertifiChecks went out of business and left a lot of people and organizations stranded. Check out LF website for details on how to request a refund from that company: www.localfirst.com. Also, the $15 Local First Coupon Books are not affected by this. They're still available and being accepted by participating retailers. There has been some confusion about these two offerings.

Studio 28 is holding a press conference on Friday. Speculation that Meijer is going to build on that land.
