  1. Looking backward to the 1970’s is definitely the best way to find inspiration. I’m going to send them a big bag of beer can pull tabs, cigarette butts, and McDonalds foam packaging to support this push for 70’s era environmental standards
  2. Wasn’t the Residence Inn at Ionia and Fulton all precast? That seemed to move pretty quickly once they got rolling.
  3. Anyone know the story of the old apparently abandoned baseball field just north of the Meijer HQ in Walker?
  4. Corewell sounds like a good name for a well drilling company. When I first received the update I thought it was typo for Carewell.
  5. So what we need is ArtPrize to become a tech event with investment bros and a bit of art?
  6. Lots of cities want to chase tech companies. That recent Inflation Reduction Act had incentives for domestic renewable energy related business . I don’t know a lot about that industry but it seems like it would be a mix of tech and manufacturing. Does a Silicon Valley equivalent exist for renewable energy or could GR attempt to jump in on that game?
  7. It would seem that what both the city and developers lack in vision, they make up for in risk aversion
  8. I’ve seen worse renderings. And, at 12 stories, it’s perfect for Grand Rapids
  9. I know this is a horrible thing to say, but the way Acrisure seemingly came out of nowhere and has blown up with a what appears to be an unlimited budget, sort of gives me Cybernet vibes for some reason.
  10. Well, I can tell you that my, as yet still unborn, great grandchildren are definitely looking forward to the groundbreaking ceremony
  11. The worst part is, IIRC, that ramp from 96 east to 131 south is two lanes. Couldn’t one lane have been kept open while the other was under whatever construction was deemed necessary then switched? That project and detour seems like amateur hour from MDOT.
  12. I believe the Devos family’s Matthew 19:24 research project is still looking for a home
  13. Serious deja vu vibes here. Someone check for a reset in the matrix.
  14. Maybe subway cars for the line that will run from the airport to the amphitheater project?
  15. I don’t think it’s a rant. You make a good point. I’ve noticed the same thing. Streets, roads and highways in the area don’t seem to have kept up with population growth and traffic patterns in many cases.
  16. Where are all those politicians now who were trying to score cheap political points by calling this facility a boondoggle?
  17. Perhaps, but you can’t see Gracewill from 96. Maybe English Hills (or what’s left of it)?
  18. Why all the BOB hate? Maybe it was a bit past its prime, but it was one of those establishments that helped lead the renaissance in downtown dining and entertainment when the arena went up.
  19. I could be wrong, but I think there are bits and pieces of the steam pig scattered around outside Schmohz brewery
  20. IIRC the Fifth Third garage is not built as robustly as the government lot. If you look at it compared to the government garage, it has thinner columns, higher ceilings. It could all be my imagination, but I swear I remember someone telling me they don’t even like large crowds on that structure like they have on Calder Plaza.
  21. It will likely end up as some made up word salad since most real words that are good are also probably taken at this point. Sort of how Michigan Blood became Versity.
