  1. I haven't been on here lately. Sorry if it's been posted already but I passed by the lot where the River Place Condos were supposed to be and there's now a for sale sign on the lot. I guess this is the official end.
  2. Does anyone know what's going on next to Istrouma Baptist Church on I-12 at Airline? A large tract of land between the church and I-12 has been cleared with construction stakes in the ground. I haven't seen or heard anything announced. I figured someone on here would know.
  3. I just discovered this fascinating blog on historic BR. One of the best sites for historic BR buildings and events I've come across. Check it out and comment. The blogger says it's been up for a year and he's not gotten much comment. I'm sure the BR experts on UP will have a lot to comment on and contribute. http://historicalbatonrouge.blogspot.com/
  4. Has anybody noticed that a tract of land on the north side of Corporate Blvd north of Citiplace has been cleared? Any idea of what this might be?
  5. Is this the wooded lot across I-110 from DOTD? I was hoping for something along the lines of a mixed development or at least something a bit more "urban" but I can understand that with the economy like it is now, we're lucky in BR to be still getting any new developments. I always thought that that site right across from DOTD and close to all the other new state offices could support a development of condos/apartments and some retail aspect.
  6. Not to beat this dead horse to death, but do I remember correctly that January 2009 is the latest deadline on this project? Does Preis come out again and say they will definetly break ground by the summer of 09 or does he officially declare it dead? I can't understand why he keeps an office on Third Street open and keeps putting it off time after time. It doesn't make sense to me to keep that property vacant and to keep an office open if the project is never going to happen.
  7. New sports bar/music venue for 3rd Street. Punchers. The bar will be decked out in classic sports-bar regalia with TVs aplenty and photos of LSU's boxing days of yore. But owner Mike Labat doesn't plan to pigeonhole Punchers-he wants to pump up Baton Rouge's music scene, too, with large-scale bands on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, complete with a 14-by-14-foot boxing ring as a stage. Punchers will open mid-December at Third and Laurel. http://www.225batonrouge.com/news/2008/nov...downtown-alive/
  8. Any inkling of what if anything is actually going on here or just wishful thinking? I hope some high rise goes there but I haven't heard of any other new development planned lately.
  9. Just a small note. I was on 3rd Street today and the doors were open on the building at 3rd and Florida. (The building with the Coca-Cola sign on top.) It looked like some cleaning out of trash was going on. Maybe in preparation for construction soon. This is a prime site downtown and really needs to open back up soon as some sort of restaurant/entertainment venue.
  10. This is oil. Haynesville is natural gas. This is not the original Tuscaloosa Trend. This is oil shale.
  11. This development will be HUGE for the Baton Rouge Metro area and Louisiana as a whole. East Feliciana, West Feliciana and northen East Baton Rouge are part of this massive oil shale field and BR is poised with it's infrastructure to profit immensely from it. Check out the channel 2 video from today at the bottom of this link. http://tuscaloosamarineshale.com/index.html
  12. This ought to be a great event for families and history buffs. AIR IT UP! AUGUST 16
  13. OK, here's the latest chapter in this saga. Richard Preis was interviewed on Channel 9. He says that an announcement will be made within the next 90 days on Riverplace. A 300 room hotel will be the major portion of the project now. It will occupy the lower floors and condos will be on top. The total project will now be between 26-30 stories. Also, he is working on another unspecified project close to the state capitol.
  14. I don't know if it means anything at all but the billboard for Riverplace condos on I-110 that has been up for over a year was not there today.
  15. Has anyone noticed the new construction starting on the north side of I-12 next to the Essen/Jefferson west bound on ramp on Brentwood drive? It's a small lot on a single family residential street but this isn't a single family residence. Anyone know what this is going to be?
