Duke Energy's second HQ building (already on the market), and parking deck (going on the market soon) are great opportunities for expansion, and I'm sure Lincoln Harris would be one of the many companies interested in the dirt under those buildings.
So what are the thoughts on the Mint Street Deck? Tepper buy as insurance in case new stadium falls through as something he can develop for entertainment area?

It's going to be quite something when plans start coming out. When is the Pipe and Foundry in Oakville supposed to be up and running? Last I can find is 2023.
I would have to think some sort of legal agreement is in place for Tepper to buy the property when they vacate or a buy and lease back until they move? If he is already buying up property, I'm sure the master plans are already in place. Oh to be a design and architect firm!

Burial doesn't even have permits for its taproom yet, so no way there.
Just to update, and that the manager wasn't crazy when they said they would be opening soon...
Burial has been opening their patio on select days. The "lounge" is open again today and Friday from 4-8pm with draft beer along with the to-go packages. So while they haven't begun the upfit inside, they have their ABC permits and are slinging beers on the patio.

It’s just about the rezoning of Charlotte Pipe and Foundry and how it passed unanimously through city council. They stated “with no discussion” the read was honestly hard to follow at that point. I am probably missing something there to understand what they were writing about. They want clicks to show the city is bending to Tepper. That gets people riled up. When in reality: the city staff all recommended the rezoning (for pipe and foundary...not Tepper). As it has been stated...city council has rejected about 2 re-zoning cases via a vote in the past however many years. If it's up for a vote...and city planning staff recommends it...it gets passed. But that doesn't sell news clicks. There was no controversy here. Its a general industry area. Did they think people are going to be up in arms that a huge industrial pipe plant is going to be replaced by mixed use? LOL.
The community meeting had 13 participants and 2 questions. https://charlottenc.gov/planning/Rezoning/RezoningPetitions/2021Petitions/Documents/Community_Meeting_Reports/2021_033_CMR.pdf

Yes I know that (many friends and family members in armed forces). That didn't stop people from offering.

FYI 3140 troops from Fort Jackson have flown through Charlotte the last couple of days according to their commander. They are bused up from basic training to fly home across the country. A lot I was talking to today were heading west LAX, SFO, SLC, SDO, PHX, DFW etc. Lots of fine men and women heading home and they were excited. Even met 2 guys heading home on Brooklyn! and one young man heading back home where he lives in Palo Alto and attended Stanford.
Exodus day was my FAVORITE day to travel. There is no better sight than all these "kids" in uniform and rucksack from basic training, smiling ear to ear, going home for a week. Everyone in the airport went out of their way for these guys and girls. Thanked them for their service. Smiled at them, Shook their hands. Tried to buy them a beer. It's the one day in the airport that people are generally not assholes.

Rezoning Requests 2021-160 and 2021-161 are for new CMS High School and Elementary School Sites (@ Torringdon and Ardrey Kell Rd Areas Respectively) which I knew but what I didnt know until I looked at Site Plans was they are both proposed with 420 & 430 Apartments each for 850 total (Does include a few Townhomes) units. How are these proposed schools going to ease overcrowding when high density is proposed right along with the schools themselves? Seems like same thing with that K-8 STEAM School at Rea Farms and the coming Ballantyne Reimagined will bring thousands more residents to the schools as well. Does CMS going in with a Developer like this at least save the School System any $$? I’m sure it doesn’t help with school overcrowding….
It helps over crowding because they are adding a HS that will probably house 2500+ students. They aren't just moving a high school. As for new apartments on-site creating issues with overcrowding...are we really expecting out of county high school kids to be moving here? Sure some people might move there so that they can go to that school...but then that opens a spot at another school. EVERY high school is overcrowded (except for where my kid goes, Northwest School for the Arts LOL). And from my experience in apartment living, new apartments rarely have high school teenagers. When I got divorced and lived in an apartment for a few years, I think my large apartment complex had maybe 4 high school kids. Way more elementary, and just 2 middle school kids.
As for adding apartments and townhomes...I am sure working with a developer is helping offset some of the school building costs.

I won't / legally can't give any hints one way or the other about any brands they're putting there, but if they get all the tenants they're going after it'll be a major food and drink destination for all of south Charlotte.
As a South Charlotte resident, this is awesome news. Just hope I am not retired (2035) before it gets built!

There may or may not be something coming to the Ballantyne Reimagined project, but I can't confirm who or what.
If you hint at Legion, I will smack you. LOL. Something different please! But yeah, something on one of those greenspaces would be awesome.
2 hours ago, grodney said:The Burton's space at Blakeney would have been perfect. Actually, the Shake Shack space at Blakeney next to the green area would have been PERFECT with the outdoor space. The Dean & Duluca space at Stonecrest is still open. The one thing all these spots have in common is that I'm sure the lease is ridiculously expensive. But if Suffolk can do South Park, yeah, you would think somebody could do somewhere in the greater Ballantyne area.
While leases can be expensive in Ballantyne, the centers can offer deals to drive up traffic in the area, like Simon is doing for Suffolk at SouthPark. And these don't need to be big expensive buildouts for a taproom. Brewery/Taproom brings people to the shopping center that wouldn't already be there. Someplace like Blakeney might be too expensive but there are other lessor visited centers that could add one. But yeah, that Dean and Deluca spot would be killer location. I wonder though if that large patio would be allowed to have beer, or if it would have to sectioned out to just a section for the brewery.

I assume that is good?
They are designing a tap house to be built on Carmel Rd, which will be walking distance to my house, but besides permits being issued and them being listed, no information about the project. I'm hoping for something good/cool/nice, but at this point, anything beer related that I can walk to easily is a huge bonus in my book.

Great addition to SouthPark mall. Nice to see a local spot instead of some big chain. I don't think I ever ate at the California Pizza place in all the years I've lived here. This should do well!
The biggest deterrent at that spot is that it's completely hidden by Dicks, and not an entrance most people use. It's a "locals" entrance haha. Hopefully they do some marketing in the mall because if you aren't from Charlotte, or for that matter Southend, people aren't going to realize "Suffolk Punch" listed under restaurants is a brewery/taproom.
-
Suffolk Punch heading to SouthPark mall. Interesting. Not a big fan of their beer but sometimes stop in if the wifey wants a cocktail after stopping for beers at Triple C. I mean I am not making a trip just to go to there from home, but if I ever go back to the office, might stop in after work if they have anything interesting on. Should do just fine with mall traffic and with the growing amount of apartments going up. Legion is usually busy, at least when the weather is nice. Would have liked to see pretty much any other brewery do this concept at the mall but it is what it is. Progress. Now do Ballantyne. How places like Noda haven't opened a tap room in South CLT is beyond me.

I am not having a hard time believing you, and I also know the genesis of all of this. I simply found the ABC links and assumed that approved meant approved. How do you know otherwise?
Because the state ABC isn't going to approve beer cans with strap on dildo's and pocket pussies on them. Did you read the article?
The state’s ABC commission is notorious for being cautious when it comes to anything racy.
In August, the commission denied the request from a Utah brewery to distribute its “Polygamy Porter” throughout North Carolina. The label depicted a barely dressed man flanked by three women, who were also barely dressed.
In that case, the governing group cited a code that prohibits statements on labels that are “undignified, immodest, or in bad taste,” the local station WRAL reported.
For its sin — not attaining approval for its labels — Sycamore will be issued a notice of violation, which will probably arrive within a month, Qureshi says. Then they’ll likely face a fine. Around $500-$1,000, Qureshi estimates.

So you are saying the ABC website is wrong where it shows “approved” for both of these beers?
Yes. They have an approved label from 2018. That isn't it.
Not sure why this is so hard for you believe.

These beers are approved. What makes you think they are breaking laws? Just the rumor mill churning?
There is zero chance the ABC approved that label, just like they didn't approve the two labels before it. Year 1, Joe Bruno reported about the reindeer sex label. They get a fine, makes the news, publicity sells even more of it, have to re-label, rinse/repeat every year since.

With the fantastic weather we have had this fall, with virtually no chance of rain ever....I have seen more exotics than I can ever remember. I basically only drive my daughter to the bus stop and I see like an exotic a day between Carmel, Glen Eagles and Park. Its nuts. Haven't seen that beaut though.

Similar to Bojangles store wrap marketing gimmick. I feel like the fines need to go up exponentially for every subsequent infraction if they actually want it to have teeth.
One is a zoning violation, the other is breaking NCABC laws. Not exactly the same thing. The fines for Sycamore should be substantially higher as this is the 3rd time they have pulled the same stunt.
As for their beer: Better options at better price points across the board. I get the millennial love for the place...that's what they cater to. Drug references, sex toys, and medicore IPA's...that's what they do best.

^ Wow, Interesting business strategy.
They have come out and said they couldn't buy that kind of advertising for the $1000 fine, so money well spent. They think the are "cool" and "edgy"....how about making good beer instead? Nah, we just want attention so we pay Charlotte Agenda for advertising and break state laws to get noticed instead.

Last Wednesday, was cruising down Graham St when this bright green Lamborghini Aventador SVJ drove by in the opposite direction. It pulled into the QT just outside of uptown so I turned around to get a closer look since you don't see a lot of $700k cars running around here. I eventually found out it was rapper DaBaby who was shooting a music video there for some reason. Also pictured are some of what I assume are his other cars, a Mercedes-Maybach S650, Lamborghini Urus, and Mercedes-Maybach GLS600.
I saw that lambo this week on Park Rd. Maybe he was visiting his lawyer in Southpark LOL. I was trying to peer inside but couldn't see squat.

NoDa apparently isn't brewing Hot Pistol (chocolate raspberry habanero stout) this year, so I decided to brew it with habaneros from my garden! It was a NoDa homebrew contest winner, so I e-mailed the original homebrewers, and they sent me the recipe! (It's the NC Beer Guys.) I brewed it yesterday and I'm very excited. The hardest part was deciding how many habaneros, since the recipe called for habanero extract instead of whole peppers. Anyway, it's in the fermenter and I'll check the heat in a few days and add more if necessary.
Obligatory CLTBeer: Anybody else disappointed that Hoppy Holidays was released already? I always looked forward to getting it right after Thanksgiving, even visiting the brewery on Black Friday a couple years for its release.
FYI - You can usually get habanero extract at Aldi's in a little tube. I use it for chili...it be hawt! As for Hoppy Holidays seasonal creep....yeah...pretty sure it has been this early at least last year and I think the year before. Nothing like seeing Santa cans while the Halloween decorations are still up. And it isn't like you buy an IPA now and stash it away until Christmas. Good luck finding a fresh one in the middle of December.

Just going but what the manager guy told me (he literally moved from Asheville to CLT the day before). They have already started on the "to-go" side on the left (but that could also be what they meant by open). If they moved a guy from Asheville to open the space, you have to imagine they are close to getting started as I can't imagine they are gonna pay him to do nothing but man the to-go shop twice a week.
Drinking Beer in Charlotte

Wait....where are you buying liquor in Charlotte?!? I went into the SouthPark ABC store last week...walked in, laughed, walked out. It was beyond bare.
