I think the idea was to have the main entrance and pedestrian areas facing Church to generate more revenue for the existing local businesses there. Also, keep in mind that the arena was designed with the plan that the Citrus Bowl would be renovated. At the time, the plan was to spark redevelopment all along Church St. from the CSS to the Citrus Bowl.

Wow Metrowester. You should be appointed the official Orlando Retail Historian. Of course you would have to work for free until this economy turns around but I would vote for you in a heartbeat.

Excellent post! I could not agree with you more. You are absolutely right that the key for any downtown resurgence is vision and patience of the few who are willing to move back and push the wagon until the momentum gets going. I still hold on to hope that one day Parramore Street will return to it's former glory and be a historic area with Jazz Bars, Art displays and dining.

I will finally start going to Movies. I've never really enjoyed the experience but beer, wine and food and make any situation better.

Wow in all my excitement I did not even see that someone has already posted pictures of the interior. It's Friday, I'm not exactly in double or crosschecking mode today. In other news, Man has just landed on the moon and the we have just elected the first Black Prez.

Just saw a news clip on this morning news showing the inside of one of the movie theaters. It looked really nice. Leather seats, wood trim, curtains and upholstery and very earthy tones. It looked more like a throwback olden playhouse than the megaplexes we're used to seeing now. Although I must say the theater they did show looked very small, however it was stadium seating. I can't wait.......I'm not really a moviegoer but I wil start making exceptions now.

I don't see why every senator and housemember from all of Florida Major Metropolitan areas are not voting for this as it would set a precedence to bring in money for their communities to develop other rail projects and mass transportation. Tampa and Jax should be supporting this as much as our leaders so that in the future when they make their pitches for mass transit projects it will not be a novel issue. I agree with the previous post that it should not be sold as a bipartisan or pro this anti that project. It should be sold as a project that would address a need and CREATE JOBS!

I see. I just assumed the practice facilities here would pale in comparison to something like the RDV but I guess it does make alot more sense. I always thought if the Magic were sold the RDV would go with it but than again who would pay for the tomatoes and the dirt they were grown in. I guess that's why Rich Devos first name is appropriately enough...Rich, and I'm just a Joe Schmoe.

I highly doubt the league would the Magic to broadcast any game publicly except the Playoffs where demand for seating will greatly exceed the arena capacity. Other than that I'm sure there are licensing and broadcast issues that would prohibit regular games being shown outside the Arena. As far as the practice court, yes the Magic have a facility currently but it is in Maitland. Most likely the practice court would only be used on game days so the team can do private shoot arounds at the arena and cut down on travel time on game days. It would probaly be used for visiting teams to allow them practice time away from the media. I'm fairly certain the main practice facility will still be RDV in Maitland.

During the Championship Game! I love your optimism sunshine but the way the Magic have been playing that's actually just as realistic as it is optimistic. Go Magic!

I used to think the O-rena was well more than adequate until I visited the TD Gardens in Boston and AA Arena in Miami. After seeing Seattle lose their franchise of more than 20 years due to a stadium fight I am extremely happy we got the concrete pouring before there was any chance to derail it. Regardless of what anyone says, a major sports franchise does alot to define a city and the Magic are a big part of Orlando's identity. I'm ecstatic they are doing so well. There success is our success, just as Bic referenced the exposure. Imagine the surprise of most people when they see the arial shots of downtown now compared to just a few years ago. I guess there's nothing left to say but.........GO MAGIC!

It amazes me how fast these things go up. I guess that's because sports facilities the structure is the easy part, it's all the interior and technological aspects that take a while. So exciting.

    Metro Orlando Airport News

You would think that a 3 story building actually on the airport property would be more dangerous than a 400+ ft building miles down the road.

Even if it were $20/ticket I would probaly still pay it. I see this as more of an experience than a simple movie. I don't go to movies much now, mostly because I don't enjoy the experience of paying $10 to sit in a cramped seat in a crowded room next to strangers, eating way overpriced cheap snacks. I would not mind spending the extra $10 to be comfortable at my own table with people I know. I don't watch movies often so I would look at it much more like a night out than a movie. If I were a more avid movie watcher I probaly would take issue with that price, but as someone who generally waits for DVD so I can sit at home and enjoy the movie, the extra $10 is worth it.

I think initial ridership should be pretty high if not just for the novelty of the whole thing. But I do feel that a bigger share of the ridership will come from non-job commuters than expected. For example, I really feel both Hospital stops, FL Hosp and ORMC, will get heavy traffic due to the amount of people who need to used this facilities but aren't able to drive. I also think evening riders, Magic Fans, evening tripper to DT will use it quite often as parking is just so limited downtown, particularly for big events.
