Amazing. Looking at Wikipedia the population was only about 55k people at this time. Probably zero urban sprawl at this time in history so the city may have been quite dense.

The city is debating whether to build roads to connect Dam Neck and London Bridge for a distribution and distribution center (possibly Amazon). Several of the contractors have had experience with Amazon facilities. https://www.pilotonline.com/2023/08/07/virginia-beach-considers-22-5-million-road-construction-for-warehouse-distribution-center-projects/

District Apizza, a Connecticut style pizza shop will open sometime this month at 2411 Granby Street. https://www.pilotonline.com/2023/08/01/restaurants-retailers-breweries-and-more-the-latest-business-openings-and-closings-in-hampton-roads/ Google maps just updated this street view. Good to see a reuse of this little building. The mapped version didn’t work when posting here.

This is an impressive piece of urban type development. Can’t wait to see this go up.

I have mixed feelings about this having met some great people in their organization years ago however, since shareholders are now involved, I wouldn’t be surprised either if they relocated to faster growing markets. We really really need some fresh perspectives in the area to get things moving.

The bank building is completely demolished and site cleared.

I went by Bed and Bath today. They've sold over half of their merchandise. It'll be interesting to see what happens with this building.

I have a family member who has done quite a bit of cruises and mentioned cruises have been selling out sometimes six months in advance. A 2nd dock might be a good addition.

It’s amazing how rural south VB can be. Almost feels like another place far away…

Things seem to be progressing with the surf park. I like the idea of WRV, a local company, being involved giving lessons, rentals, etc. https://www.pilotonline.com/government/local/vp-nw-atlantic-park-details-0315-20230316-jk6bs6v7djgahlqem5bpf6b4ee-story.html

It’s going to be great to see this high rise go up. We badly need some crane action around here.

Just saw a list of stores that are closing. The one on Greenbrier is listed but not the Beach location.

I have fond memories of the mall as well including a lighthouse print I purchased from Z Gallerie. Those were good times. -

This article is about the state of the malls in the area. Personally, I find it a little sad that most malls are perishing while only the strong survive. I was in Lynnhaven yesterday and was surprised at lack of people in this once bustling center. Most people, myself included, buy a lot things online these days. https://www.wavy.com/news/local-news/state-of-the-mall-2022-no-more-than-2-in-hampton-roads-expected-to-survive/
