  1. A few years ago, I read something that implied the cities were willing to work together to make this happen. It was long before Pharrell or Emmitt made a proposal and this was just an idea being floated. I have a feeling it’s gonna take at least a decade for this to happen because they seemingly keep kicking the can down the road.
  2. I wouldn’t sweat Richmond’s arena. Both markets need larger, state-of-the-art venues and they’re far enough from us to where it shouldn’t siphon off our entertainment and vice versa. You might have Beyoncé come here one year for a tour, then go to Richmond for the next tour a year or two later. Gaga might do the same but in reverse. Kinda like how The Norva and the National coexist for smaller shows.
  3. Unbelievable. That’s a lie. This is totally believable. Are we sure that parking lot isn’t an old burial ground? It seems pretty cursed when it comes to potential projects.
  4. The city found a new spot for the temporary casino: Harbor Park's parking lot, next to the Amtrak station. It will be torn down once Headwaters opens, supposedly in two years. https://www.pilotonline.com/government/local/vp-nw-temporary-casino-headwaters-20220907-vewypfalkjbbnj3wblzqshyho4-story.html
  5. I dunno why I thought the hospital itself was much taller. Never realized it was only five stories.
  6. I thought this was the actual proposal and almost fell off my couch.
  7. Mayor Dyer said so in the article but this could be a great way to kickstart more tech jobs in the area. Great move for VB and the region.

That is one cool building. I could imagine it being a mix of apartments and offices.
  9. Must everything be a patronizing debate? The city once referred to it as Fort Norfolk, and it stuck for some people. No more no less. The name doesn’t inspire me no more than Atlantic City, but I don’t understand the big deal.
  10. The only 30K+ stadium in this area is at NSU, which is FCS. I don’t think ODU has to strive for 70K seats like what the ACC or SEC has, but I see no reason why they shouldn’t bump up to 30-35K. esp. since they still have several in-state rivals that can help pack that stadium. Granted, they need a consistently solid product like what they had the first time they went to a bowl game. I say at least 7-8 wins year in, year out gets the job done.
  11. As much as I'd love for it to be a true extension of downtown, Midtown makes sense given it's right there at the foot of the Midtown Tunnel. That said, it looks like Norfolk plans to call another section of the city "Midtown". https://www.norfolk.gov/DocumentCenter/View/72631/PH-01-Amend-plaNorfolk2030---Adopt-City-of-Norfolk-Midtown-Plan
  12. Apparently there's an update coming at tomorrow night's meeting. https://www.norfolk.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_08232022-1174
  13. I thought they wanted to replace the (non-party deck) end zone seats with a more modern grandstand that connects to the current setup?
  14. Wait...so NOW Rudee Loop is a priority? Reminds me of how they suddenly got cold feet about working with Norfolk on the outlet mall, and claimed they wanted to preserve Burton Station. Most real cities can handle two major projects or proposals at once. But I forgot this is Hampton Roads.
  15. How will it impact parking at the convention center or sports center, or is that large structure off to the center right a parking deck? The apartment directly across from the convention center is a pretty large parking lot. I like the designs...like vdogg said it has a DC look. Hopefully it doesn't get watered down by any review boards.
  16. I hope they bring back the bowling alley concept. They canceled it due to the pandemic, but it would be something different. Either that or an Apex or D&B-style venue.
  17. Of course they add Broken Egg after I moved back to Chesapeake. I do love that we have one in Greenbrier. That's a great brunch spot and stays packed. Great pickup for Ghent.
  18. The airport set another record last month, with 431K passengers. That made for the busiest month in ORF history. Right now, ORF has had 2.3M passengers in 2022 and is on track to top 4M. https://www.norfolkairport.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/July-2022-Media-Release.pdf
  19. So HeadWaters is hosting an appreciation day for HRT employees, so I guess there's still some life left here? https://www.facebook.com/hrtfan/posts/pfbid06oNFicTdWNd8RkR6SdGUMUkseWYkn3AVfr8yDmMKKX18JZzPXzZx7c9e8Bg1VizRl
  20. Aslin Beer plans to open a brewery in the 800 block of VB Blvd., near the convention center. They’re also receiving a 100K grant. https://www.pilotonline.com/food-drink/vp-nw-aslin-beer-0817-20220816-s5bnd67pajbmretoqiu56zmhgm-story.html
  21. I would like to see the original building from '74 remain as intact as possible, but I hope whatever they do with the redesign involves more natural light. Both the main departures lobby and terminal gates could use more windows.
  22. Looks like Bruce Thompson is determined to build a park somewhere in HR. I admit I would like to see Bruce Smith's project, if for nothing else to get more contemporary architecture along the Strip. However, I'd rather see new developments go at the other end near Catch 31 and the Cavalier.

I think we get a little more mid rise back home; by comparison I’m technically in suburban Denver. Downtown is about 15-20 minutes away from here.

I’m in Denver this week. My hotel overlooks an area that looks like what I think SPQ will be in a few years. A mix of apartments and condos/townhouses. Right now I’m trying to envision how the picture below would look next to downtown. Not exactly what you’d see along Greenbrier Parkway, but it does have suburban vibes. Last night I went to a food hall that I’m guessing used to be a warehouse. It disappoints me that Granby Station never came to fruition, but it also made me realize that there’s definitely potential for a food hall elsewhere in an old warehouse, maybe over in Park Place or the Neon District. The food hall I went to last night is what Waterside should’ve been IMO.
