I noticed many of the renders have gates around these facilities, for the exception of the first picture with "shops" that seems to be opened. My guess is they will try to control the people who enter here and even close it at night.

I'd imagine they'd have to. They will likely operate it much like a park with dawn to dusk hours, possibly. To minimize vandalism, though, they'll likely have to put gates up.

What I'm wondering is, if there are retailers there, will they use branded shopping bags with the "Under i" logo printed on them?

    Maybe something like this....

And if they do, will they be called "Under i bags"?

Boy. I dunno... I went such a long way for that joke and now I'm thinking it was a lot of effort for little return.

    Oh my dear lord......

Per article they are also hoping to pin down office and retail tenants and there was a brief mention of the I-4 underpass development which may weigh into there timeline.

I, for one, have always thought this would happen. It makes too much sense for the Magic to see it through. With the west side developing- the underpass, CV, Exploria... I think the time is right. Let's hope the economy holds up for them.

I strongly believe if they don't build this by the end of next year, it won't happen and they'll have to end up selling the land. The economy is on the verge of a downturn.

I'm fairly positive if anyone in a downtown housing scenario believes their view is a view they'll have forever they might need a Stupid Sign.

Downtown views change all the time and that could be for the better or the worse.

Yeah, I wasn't naive enough to think it would always stay that way. No downtown area stays that way, and there are only so many undeveloped plots of land available. I also didn't own the condo, just enjoyed the gorgeous sunsets and watching seabreeze action thunderstorms  every evening.

Recorded this off of my TV earlier this evening.

Sounds like they're bandying about the idea of putting a partial roof over The Campy...

My apologies for the shaky video.

Can't listen bc of being at work, but I believe this is directly dependent upon whether or not Orlando ends up being a host city for the 2026 World Cup. Jax is toying with doing this at Everbank Field as well.

Thanks Xander. Even better than advertised. I still think it is not a lot of structural work so it should be fairly quick to complete.

Yeah, I don't think it'll take a tremendous amount of time, maybe a few months for the entire project to be done. The cast concrete process they used for the rest of the stadium made the entire assembly remarkably fast, so I don't think this will take a long time. I haven't heard any info about the changes to the parking areas, though, which is also in the plans and really interests me.

It seems, even though $60 million is a lot of money, that this is not any major work. The only structural work would seem to be connecting the E/W concourses. Other than that it is putting lipstick on a pig- update some bathrooms and concession areas. Since the stadium sits empty so often this work can be knocked out quickly. The article says "a construction management firm will be hired this year and renovation could be completed as early as 2020." although they don't say early or late 2020. Since all this work was designed (and cut) in the last round of improvements they are already ahead of the game and may only need to tweak the plans they already had in  place.

Pure guess- they wait until after the bowl games and NFL All Pro game and knock this out March-Sept next year to be ready for NCAA kickoff. But that is only a guess.

They're also putting in permanent seating in the north end, corner suites up top and in the north end as well. I saw renderings a while back, but I can't seem to find them. I'll see what I can find.

Update: found them on WFTV.com. Pictures below are the north end of the stadium.

Agreed. Moving this development to Washington & Rosalind would put the brise-soleil front and center on Lake Eola rather than obscuring the architecture by tucking the building away in South Eola. Cambria Suites & co have been dragging their feet on building the hotel for years... they might as well give the property to a developer who is ready to build a hotel NOW.

Man, I really wish it could fit in that lot. Exactly what I was thinking.

New proposed tower by Citi Tower Developer.

It's a cool building that I wish was going to be put somewhere else. I LOVE the tree canopy in Lake Eola Heights. This would take away quite a bit of it in that area. I like the healthy mix of small residences and highrises in the area.

what's Montreal's connection to the TB Rays?

I really haven't a clue. I don't know if there even is one, other than Montreal being rumored to be looking to get back into  MLB since they lost the Expos. I do know that a team is being assembled right now to officially launch a bid to lure the Rays to Orlando, and there will be news about it coming up here shortly.

I think marketing in general in this city is pretty bad. Don't know if the talent isn't here or what but cities like Atlanta ,Miami and Tampa are consistently better at marketing and video productions. This is even evident in our soccer teams. Look at the marketing/branding dept at OCSC and compare it to Atlanta United FC and Inter Miami FC teams and its night and day. Same for our basketball teams, same for our local news production and on and on. Stuff here look s VERY low budget compared to other markets

I can't agree with this regarding OCSC. I see Orlando City absolutely everywhere, hear about them on the radio, see them on TV. I've been through Atlanta twice in the past 2 months and, no joke, absolutely nothing. No billboards, banners, stickers, license plate frames, magnets- zero. Inter Miami isn't even in the league yet and half the time their website is down. I do know that radiowise, Orlando treats itself like a much bigger market than it actually is, and it's odd and has run a lot of people off to Tampa or Miami.

Where has this been talked about by Dyer and his team? I’ve only seen an article about a month ago that said Orlando wasn’t not pursuing the Rays.

He's also on record saying he'd love for them to be here now and, though i'm familiar with the article you're referring to, I know it's something on his radar and that it's being looked into. Not largely promising, but there's a reason why you're not hearing about it as an official campaign.

  13. With all the Universal buzz coming down the pipeline, i'm wondering, with the location being so prime, if they'd consider incorporating a sports complex, similar to WWoS with NBC. They definitely have the parcels.

What would really be cool is if somehow they could partner with the city and build an MLB stadium for the Rays and keep them in the area. They have the space(and location) for that as well. Buddy Dyer's office has been very recently talking about if they should pitch Orlando as a potential spot for a new Rays ballpark.....just sayin.

Here is the City of Orlando's new marketing video for the SODO District.

With over $1 billion in new development coming over the next 5 years or so this district is going to change in a big way. Add in all then new infrastructure for bike and pedestrians and this area is primed to become Orlando's midtown.

Not to be critical, but how can it be "midtown"?
