  1. I keep thinking we gotta pretty close to the post office building a new facility and selling the land. If it ever happens I would think DeVos Place (or DDA or whatever) would be the first to snatch it up to expand. That would be a perfect spot for a hotel. Not sure where that would put us with total convention space... looks like we currently have 240,000 sqft, compared to Cobo at 723,000. That location for the post office just doesn't seem to work really wall anymore, but then again, it is the federal government....
  2. Yeah I think the prices are the same (for now at least). A little more detail... There is a lot more room with the seats, kind of a wall in front of you and behind you so you don't have to worry about someone kicking your seat or draping their feet over it. They have automatic recliners and are heated. There's a tray you can swivel in front of you. The people next to us had food and drinks delivered. There's a slushy machine :). The staff will ask if you need parking validated. Yeah overall super clean and great staff. Check it out if you haven't already, I heard a couple people comment that studio park would be the only theater they go to now.
  3. Checked out Studio Park yesterday and it's super impressive. The staff is awesome, the reclining seats are great, and it was super clean. Maybe it's just me, but the picture seemed much more clear and the sound/bass much better. Might be hard to convince me to go to a movie in the burbs in the future....
  4. Another 34 would be better..... There's still time to divert back to the original plan right? Right??????
  5. According to those on Reddit, they kind of did away with their original concept and switched to more traditional food/pizzas. A lot of people said they preferred the original menu and were looking forward to CSB's food.
  6. This is pretty cool. I've often wondered when we would see a PF in GR proper (excluding the one on LMD). I always thought it would be Michigan St or Eastown. There's quite a few gyms DT already, but they all seem to cater to different groups. I think this will be successful. It's especially nice for out of towners who are looking for something better than a hotel 'fitness center'. I wonder about parking on site in the ramp. Maybe 1-2 hours free? Probably not, though....
  7. well that and maybe all the bible thumpers are moving further west toward Ottawa county? GR is certainly more secular than I remember growing up. Just look at all of the churches being replaced with condos and townhouses. It's not just GR, it's happening all over the U.S. and has been happening for decades in Europe. Kind of a nice change IMO. Although, it seems like there is probably a mega church every square mile in the western burbs.
  8. I wonder if the UAW strike hurt them at all? Either way... it's really interesting that an old automotive supplier factory will be replaced with a brand new healthcare building and down on Bridge street the Jesus building is being replaced with a brewery.... kinda speaks to the direction GR has been going and continues to go.
  9. I thought Rockford owned the old bank and Duthler's property? They have similar LLCs to other Rockford properties. I really don't think it will be long before we see those parcels developed. I also think development will continue to head further west down Bridge. It looks like the old laundry mat and 1034 Bridge are being remodeled as well. I could also see a couple blocks of relatively cheap housing stock demolished for condos/apartments north and south of Bridge. There seems to be a lot less NIMBY-ism in the area than there used to be.
  10. Spectrum's gonna try to cram 1200 people in that dinky ass building??? Or is this separate from their "new DT building"?
  11. I would think (hope) they would start soon. I heard this week that apartments are still at or near full occupancy around GR, especially downtown. The person also stated that the new Spectrum building is expected to increase demand.
  12. She obviously hasn't driven a vehicle around here.......

  14. I used to go to the restaurant/bar at the Crowne Plaza on Friday nights for trivia. The service was horrendous. I'm not one to rag on places, but there were times we would be seated and never be greeted by a server, or wait 20-30 minutes to be greeted plus a 10 minute wait for drinks. Nope, wasn't busy in there, actually dead by Friday night standards. you can tell the restaurant area was neglected with some piss-poor management. We usually just had to go up to the bar... fruit flies everywhere, dead fruit flies in my beer, smelled like rotting who knows what, sinks not draining properly, bartenders eating, drinking, not washing hands, on their phone or just disappearing to go deliver a room service order. There was duct tape holding the carpet together and just generally dirty. We had a gift certificate from one of the rare occasions we won trivia and they said we could only buy food with it (?) drinks not included. If I can see what your bar looks like there's no way in hell I'm ordering food. The hotel guests were mostly travelling soccer families. I think management figured 'meh, they're not coming back anyways'. The hotel has a lot of potential, but needs to be gutted - staff and property. OK rant over
  15. you forgot the best part.... "MDOT officials say the project will widen the stretch of highway from two to three lanes to ease traffic congestion and also include a reconstruction of the Lake Michigan Drive interchange to improve safety " Just kidding!
  16. Ahhh ok, makes sense. Thanks for the responses
  17. ehh you're probably right, I was just looking at the google maps, which I'm sure is at least a few years old. I guess I was referring more to the area North of 4 Mile and West of Cordes..... It's always just kind of interesting to me that one can be on the insanity of Alpine one moment and then driving through orchards the next
  18. Speaking of Alpine. Anyone have any idea why there is almost no development West of Alpine and North of 96? I would that would be some pretty prime real estate, but it's mostly farms. Is it still considered contaminated from pesticides used or maybe due to the fact that Walker has an income tax? I've always been curious.
  19. I kinda agree with GRDad on this one. There's not really a whole lot that draws me to W. Leonard. It's kind of a mish mash of pawn shops, head shops, thrift shops, deer processing shops(?). Don't get me wrong, 10 years ago I used to go to shakedown all the time, but I still feel like the west side is a whole different city compared to the rest of GR. It's just kind of a foreign concept to me I guess, growing up in SE GR we never really crossed the river except on the rare occasion a Union friend was having a party. I'm not trying to bash or hate on the west side it's just different, kinda like Michigan street 15+ years ago was.
  20. This should go over well, Johnny Brann has a great relationship with the city.....
  21. I wonder if the whole Anna's House political contribution thing actually hurt their bottom line. I wouldn't really think it would have made much of a difference, sure some people will stop eating there, but some people will start patronizing more often. If Anna's House shared proprietary information, that's kind of on them isn't it? I don't think recipes are protected by law. "Stealing" menu items is frowned upon in the culinary world, but it happens all the time. I went to Anna's a couple times, it was 'meh' at best. Morning Belle has a liquor license which will appeal to some. Either way Wolfgang's is still king!
  22. I'm almost certain projects are charged for blocking lanes of traffic. This is based on the length of time the project takes..
  23. I'm not holding out for anything spectacular, just praying it looks decent with some decent height. Not sure what the point of re purposing the Gill would be. It would probably be cheaper to tear it down and start fresh. It would be nice to see parking with office on top, but I get a feeling it may be ramp next to office building like everything else around there. Also the footprint is pretty large, so we might not see much height. Could end up being pretty 'meh'. (I'm setting my expectations low, so hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.) Either way it should be a great catalyst to get some of those old industrial buildings out of there. I wonder when (if) the autodie plant will ever make a move, that property is massive.
  24. I've often wondered when the Wealthy street interchange will get redesigned as I sit through countless light cycles on the Wealthy section. It could use at least 3 more lanes going over the highway, similar to the I-196 interchanges at College and Fuller. They had Wealthy west of Division closed for ages and didn't even touch it. Everything about it is horrible, it's crumbling and I've seen countless people walking in the road to avoid the 12" curbs.
