  1. Other than annexations within doughnut holes, the city is seemingly tapping the breaks on annexations. Mostly due to drainage concerns and also to control growth on the city's outer edges.

  4. I wanted to wait until after Hurricane Dorian passed to post but the new intermodal transportation facility in N Chas has opened last week. The facility serves as an Amtrak station, CARTA station and regional bus service from Southeastern Stages. https://charlestonbusiness.com/news/transportation/77027/ Nice upgrade over the old Amtrak station that was located at the same location.
  5. Perhaps this has already been posted elsewhere, but VCU Health has moved into the former SunTrust operations' building on Parham Rd. Nice to see this building being re-purposed.

  11. BAR will review for final approval at its Aug 15 meeting.

  16. As I would have guessed, the BAR deferred the project based on height, scale, mass and further study of architectural direction at its June 26 meeting. https://www.charleston-sc.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_06262019-4716

  19. By downtown Charleston standards, this is a very large and significant project. I was just looking at the rendering (6/26 BAR agenda linked below beginning at Page 358). I anticipate the BAR will take exception with the building mass, especially the hotel. But it looks like a quality project and if it's anything like The Hotel Bennett on King St. it will be very nice. https://www.charleston-sc.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_06262019-4707

  24. I've worked in the Semmes /Cowardin area almost 12 years now and it's amazing the transformation that has occurred in this area and what's coming in the next 1-3 years. The only disappointing item of note is the lack of new retail that has not followed the residential build. As I look around I'm not sure where it will be going as most of the available development tracts are residential. But much to be proud of in this area of the city.
  25.
