  1. I'm with B2N. Somehow, someway, it seems most of the issues surrounding traffic/efficiencies/etc. come back to the notion of a real mass transit system. Two thoughts come to mind. The first is from a commercial where the serviceman proclaims, you can either pay me now, or you can pay me later. But eventually, you're gonna pay me. The second is from Henry Ford. "If you need a machine and don't but it, then you will ultimately find you have paid for it, and still don't have it." To me, both these describe where Nashville is relative to real mass transit. For the life of me, I don't understand how leadership doesn't understand this. Wait, yes I do understand it. IIMO, it's likely because revenue generators are the priority. Civic needs will always be secondary. And on second thought, that's not a Nashville thing, that's an America/capitalism thing.
  2. I'm thinking residential and if that's the case, I hope they're motivated to go big and to get going soon enough to compete for tenants with 800 and Ritz.
  3. Hopefully, the park will spur some smaller scale hotel developments and attract some smaller scale attractions to turn the area into more of an area destination than just the park itself.
  4. Despite all the cautions and skepticism, I am hopeful...
  5. Given the name of the sculpture, I'm thinking that Arnold's opponent in 1987's Predator was exactly the artist's inspiration! Not sure what it says about me, yet I've always enjoyed that movie. Can't click past it.
  6. Tremendous before and after photo! Just wow. And even the roadway has changed.
  7. ^^^ Nice photo! Also makes me hope even more for 800 Lea and Gulch Central to get some height over that way.
  8. Why am I so excited about this? I'm glad you asked. I've been rooting for some action in this part of downtown since I started following the UP Nashville community. Could it finally be about to happen??? Between this news and the TPAC talk, fingers crossed! https://www.nashvillepost.com/business/development/downtown-mixed-use-building-listed-for-undisclosed-price/article_f23856bc-aba0-11ec-985f-47fb468a2caf.html
  9. Fingers crossed. And considering it's boxy at the top with a flat roof, all signs are go!
  10. In my best Mortal Kombat video game voice...FIGHT! Also, that Smeags and his magic eight ball know everything. He posted a couple weeks ago about this lot (can't remember on which thread).
  11. The Calgary skyline is awesome and if we ever get even in that neighborhood, I'll be grinning from ear-to-ear. As JJBB pointed out, mixed throughout their skyline are several towers ranging from 600-800ft. That's where we're lacking. We have literally ONE tower over 600ft...and that's just barely over 600. If the majority of the proposed/planned projects come to fruition, we'll definitely have the sheer volume for density and spread we all desire. IMO, we need to add the sporadic height to pull off the visual variety that a truly impressive skyline (a la Calgary) offers. This is why earlier in this thread I stated I hope 800 Lea doesn't change. At 600', it would do wonders for the overall look of the skyline. Both it and the YMCA tower are two musts in my mind. Most of us, myself included, often get wrapped up in the look and feel of a singular tower, yet even more important to me is the overall look of the skyline. One tower, no matter how atrocious, can be obscured or even consumed by subsequent towers, either via angles or greater height. Yet it's the aggregate skyline that tends to be the city's signature. Again, it's merely one person's opinion. I think we need a few 600-750's to really flex into what's becoming a most impressive skyline.
  12. In addition the my 750' dream, I'm also dreaming that downtown itself will jump the river. Then those redesigned bridges could add to the uniqueness of downtown instead of marking its eastern end.
  13. This is a point I've been bemoaning on several strings. Nowhere near hoping every new project is stylish and/or unique. Just would like to see a few mixed in here and there to "lift" the profile of the skyline.
  14. Here are some shots I took a couple years ago on a visit to the U.A.E. Please excuse the ones taken through the bus windows and welcome to Dubai and Abu Dhabi! The first few are from Abu Dhabi. The stay there was brief so I didn't get to take a lot of photos. The first is from my hotel room. The second and third are of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The fourth is of the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
