    XL Center Renovation/Replacement Plans

An interesting read from the NY Post. Let's hope this means that the ball is finally starting to roll on this project in a major way. Now that private investors are starting to creep into the picture it makes me wonder if they know something that we don't. Maybe talks with the NHL are starting to accelerate too?

    PROPOSED: Hotel on Market St.

Here's a few pics I took this evening. It looks like it's shaping up to be a pretty decent sized building. 8 stories in this location certainly isn't insignificant. All pictures were taken from the Citgo parking lot, looking South.

    Hartford I-84 Viaduct Study

The more I think about this project the more concerned I am. Relocating the rail line to the opposite side of the highway makes it easier to build a new highway, but I'm worried about the effect that it will have on the city. Union Station has been in its current spot for well over 100 years. We know how union station interacts with the city and we have over a century of evidence to look back on. However, we have no idea what positive or negative effects will come about if we abandon union station (which will almost certainly cause it to fall into a state of disrepair), relocate a new transportation center to the opposite side of a highway from major downtown attractions, and build a new tax exempt structure on prime downtown real estate. We've tried rearranging Hartford to accommodate a new highway before and it didn't work out. I'm just worried about getting "more of the same." I'm no engineer but I'd imagine that there are other alternatives that preserve the use of Union Station and allow us to fix I-84.
  5. The NHHS Rail Line has been rebranded as The Hartford Line. Gov. Malloy also announced that construction will begin this fall on three new stations in Wallingford, Meriden and Berlin. The new logo seems to be a variation of the one used for CTFastrak with a different color scheme. The name change and color scheme falls in line with other rail lines in Connecticut (New Haven Line and Waterbury Branch) so does this imply that the state may be leaning toward selecting Metro North as the operator for this line too?

The states big plans for Hartford

The planned I-84 reconstruction, the potential realignment of the railroad to the opposite side of I-84 and the state's plans of consolidating and relocating employees presents an opportunity for the expansion of Bushnell Park to what would seem to be it's natural borders. It would require the demolition of a few State owned buildings and a parking garage but I think it's at least worth a thought. The new borders of the park would be Asylum street to the north, Broad street to the west and Capitol ave to the south. Along with the expansion of the park I envision getting rid of the parking area on the north side of the capitol building and turning Trinity street (from the intersection of Elm street to Jewel Street) into a pedestrian and bike lane only. This idea is probably unrealistic but it's just something to provoke a little thought and conversation about the future of the park. Why not expand to the West and East (iQuilt) at the same time?

    Bradley International Airport

I read most of the threads here but I don't post too often so forgive me if this has been posted somewhere else already. I looked in a few threads and I didn't see any postings about the new Terminal B at Bradley. This company also seems to have experience in adding rail service to airports. Could this be in Bradley's long term future too?

    Bring Back The Whale!!!

During the lockout the NHL lost most of TV contracts including the one it had with ESPN which is the main reason I prefer the NBA. If the largest sports network in the world won't televise a team in its own backyard then why should we pursue them over an NBA team that could provide Hartford with national exposure several times a year?

    Bring Back The Whale!!!

Looks like Northland has some serious competition. Dan Marino and Mark Cuban might buy the Pittsburgh Penguins
  10. Doesn't anyone worry that Northland might be gaining a little too much power and influence in the area?
  11. Since this is the Off Topic thread I figured this would be the best place to put this really random comment; I don't know how many of you guys watch Family Guy but they just mentioned Hartford and said that we had a really cool mall here thats kind of under ground (not that I know of). I thought you guys might find this interesting even though this isn't the national exposure we're all hoping for.

    COMPLETED: Hartford 21

I was reading the May 8, 2006 edition of TIME Magazine and I saw a full page ad for Hartford 21 and I was just curious to know if advertising is regional or if that was a national ad? I will post the picture as soon as I get my scanner to work.

    Bring Back The Whale!!!

If we get a team I would love for it to be the Penguins. Sydney Crosby would look great in a Whalers uniform.

    Bring Back The Whale!!!

I think that I might be alone on this one but I think I would actually like to see the NBA in Hartford instead of the NHL. My main reason is because I don't think that the NHL will be around in 15-20 years. That entire league is in shambles and Gary Bettman should be unemployed by now. But I would love see them both here together if that's possible.

I love the location. Very accesible and very visible.
