  1. I saw this Corvair parked on Rowley St. at lunchtime today! Maybe a visitor to the Senior Center on E. Park Ave? When you took this pic, did you specifically notice the license plate? NDR4PRZ ("Nader for Prez!")
  2. I had an AMAZING chicken burrito at Chipotle on Friday. (Skipped the chips, though.) MUCH better than Moe's, IMO. (Haven't eaten at Salsaritas recently enough to compare those two.) And how nice that you can eat in and have it with a beer if you like.
  3. Chin Chin is AWESOME!!! They also make their own kim chee! I think they will give you a sample if you ask politely. (Have you ever priced that stuff at the health food store? $15 for a little 10-oz jar!). Added: although, we did get a quite a chuckle out of the painting over the kitchen. It looks like an A-bomb going off.
  4. Just as FYI, it appears that this is a "2.0" version of The Greenville News' "Upstate Link" product. Out of curiosity, I googled "Upstate Link," and Metromix Greenville is the first site to come up on the results list. The Greenville News is listed at the bottom of the site as a "partner," but I believe Gannett Newspapers owns Metromix as sort of a "franchise."
  5. With a better transit system, we could have Zipcars (http://www.zipcar.com) parked at places like Millennium Campus, Jacobs, Fluor, and other convenient locations for those who don't want to drive (added: "to work"), but may need a car in a pinch during the day. It's a business opportunity for someone, I'm sure.
  6. Like its identity? Don't get me wrong, I'm not feeling rancorous re. the subject... I am perplexed. I don't comprehend the "need" to merge Spartanburg into "greater Greenville." When you homogenize things, the character of the discrete parts no longer exists. People would laugh at me if I offered them a strawberry-banana smoothie while insisting that the banana has no effect on how the strawberries taste.
  7. Yep, and I was actually *startled* the first time I saw them. Great idea, though, IMO. A bit of an "early warning system" there at Malfunction Junction is not a bad thing.
  8. Now, that is truly a new one on me. I've lived in Greenville for 26 years and never has it occurred to me (or would it) that Spartanburg is "a part of Greater Greenville." Spartanburg has its own particular character.
  9. I rode by there yesterday... there's a sign up that indicates Urban Nirvana will open a spa here.
  10. Shock Pancake, did you find a place yet? I've got a couple of hot tips for you, but was unable to private message you on the UP system. Let me know how to contact you and I'll share the info. if you still need it. Silver
  11. Wasn't there a Breugger's behind Haywood mall back in the mid-90's? In that little strip area that used to house a Drug Emporium?
  12. Can you say "Piggly Wiggly"??
  13. An article of interest from USA Today: "Riders Crowd Public Transit Systems" http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/2007...N.htm?csp=22_gn
  14. Spartan, here's the blog post. The link to GTA is at the beginning of the 2nd paragraph.
  15. The Greenville News' Jeanne Brooks blogged about GTA the other day and posted a link so people could look at a map to see GTA's current coverage. One improvement (IMO) within the City limits jumped out at me right away: On the Overbrook route, that bus needs to go up Lowndes Hill Rd. for a ways, starting where Lowndes Hill forks off of E. North St. near Stone Ave., to Keith Dr. Then, it should turn left on Keith Dr. and proceed to E. North St. By making that small change, it would (1) be easier to transfer from the Jesse Jackson Townhomes Route to the Overbrook route, and (2) make it more
  16. I *have* ridden it on 2 or 3 occasions within the past couple of years, when my car was broken down or in the shop. But my office is, let's say, a "healthy walk" from the nearest stop. If a bus stopped a bit closer, I'd be more than glad to ride it to and from work every day. My limited experience with it has been that it's clean and safe, and the fellow riders are nice folks. Covered bus stops would be nice, too--as someone who usually has a choice about how to get to work, I can tell you I'm not going to willingly stand out in the rain waiting on a bus if I don't have to. Sure, covered st
  17. Crate & Barrel, anyone? (yes, I'm wishful thinking).
  18. Did anyone else hear this segment on NPR the other day? http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6582982
  19. Today's Greenville News says, among other things, that the Costco will be opening in Summer 2007. http://www.greenvillenews.com/apps/pbcs.dl...4/1003/BUSINESS
  20. I'm a "No." I'm one who doesn't think material benefits should be granted to anyone's marriages, nor do I think the church has the right to interfere with legal partnerships between consenting adults.
  21. Well, I've had a love/hate relationship with Greenville since I got here in the mid-70's. It's more "love" now, though, I have to say. Anywhere you go, you're going to find people with whom these things are not "okay"--but I don't live my life based on their opinions. Personally, I'm a post-Christian agnostic, and hubby is a post-Christian atheist and and "lowbrow" artist. We're both nonconformists (hubby more than I, though) and we're definitely gay-friendly and pagan-friendly. Come on down!
  22. Hubby and I ate at the Mellow Mushroom for the first time a couple weeks ago. It was a Friday lunchtime. The service left something to be desired (I think they were shorthanded that day)... we shared a hummus appetizer and a small "Mega Veggie" pizza. Both were terrific! Definitely worth a try for everyone. They even offer tempeh as a pizza topping... I'm not a hardcore vegetarian or anything, but I have to admit, I was impressed.
  23. I think it's terrific! I often shop at that (added: next-door) Publix, and it's been an eyesore forever. I can live with the mess for now... until they finish, or until they open the new Publix at McBee Station.
  24. All the bus stops need to be covered stops, IMO. Hubby sometimes rides GTA if he can't catch a ride with me, a friend, etc. (has epilepsy that's not well controlled, so not allowed to drive). Many of the GTA stops aren't even covered--you are most often totally exposed to the weather.
  25. I don't think it's so awful... as I recall, there's a PW in Hilton Head, and it doesn't seem to be bringing down the neighborhood. I do think if the thing is to be done at all, it needs to be done well (i.e., full service, charming architecture, etc.).
