  1. Admittedly I don’t follow this thread with any regularity, but why are they demolishing E again in this master plan? If they have such a demand for gates? What is the purpose of less gates when those already exist? I’m sure there’s a logical answer I’m just not aware of.
  2. It’s been there as long as I can remember, but I’ve never seen anyone out there. What a waste. Always curious what that was.
  3. Please tell me you got at least two cocktails-in-a-bag during your tour. I have this same shot from a year ago!
  4. And Senator Garrett has a few thoughts about it (and confirms it). I imagine after all this being broadcast, an official announcement will come as soon as they pass this. Assuming they do. https://www.wfmynews2.com/article/news/local/15-million-dollars-move-acc-atlantic-coast-conference-headquarters-hq-out-leave-greensboro-charlotte-new-nc-north-carolina-proposed-budget-bill/83-9ead32e3-c2e7-4c87-92e6-1f671f93f3d2
  5. From Elmwood Cemetery today.
  6. Is it done? I have such a hard time determining if things are still under construction or if that's what it is. It doesn't look done, but who knows? Seriously - who does know? It almost has the air of an abandoned project.
  7. Dang I feel old. I watched that being built.
  8. Hey congrats on the Planning Commissioner gig!
  9. To me, this building has the biggest impact from this view - heading N on Park at the intersection of Park and Fairview. I always loved the view from this light. I look forward to red lights here. I’m weird.
  10. That article. Even the pic they chose for CLT. Sure - one was named for the reigning queen at the time of its incorporation in 1774 in a county named in her honor from her native region 12 years prior. And the other grasped onto the name because someone once wrote a 6 line poem with the word ‘queen’ in it like a hundred years later. Mmmhmm. Okay.
  11. That’s interesting to hear. I’m sure not everyone loved the idea of the Vue - I mean, it is out of overall character for the neighborhood for sure - but I was at the Friends of Fourth Ward meeting where the building was pitched by the developers to the residents before it was approved and there was strong support for it then, at least with our group of folks. It was far enough away feeling and there’s not a heck of a lot historic-feeling on those blocks (save the old fire station). We were supportive of getting that many residents in our neighborhood to support the shops and restaurants, etc., that we were clamoring for. And there was one very enthusiastic neighbor that loved the idea of the skyline being spread out along the Trade St axis. He went on in great detail about it. But certainly there was probably pushback from some. But lots of folks were for it too.
  12. That’s interesting to think about. Prior to that big apartment complex across from Crate&Barrel being built, I think a lot of people would have said “that’s in the wrong neighborhood. That is more suited to SouthEnd than SouthPark.” All a matter of perspective, I guess.
  13. HDC made an exception for the Vue, which also falls inside the district, so it could be done.
  14. That and that Ally Center is already being renovated and it’s not even done yet. Is it? I honestly have no idea. It seems that building has been under construction for 13 years.
  15. OG NSX at Lowe’s in SouthEnd.
  16. ^^I feel like I’ve presented in front of you at the Government Center…
  17. Looks like they’re peeling off the NASCAR signs from the building this morning.
  18. Maybe they’ll go to Richmond.
  19. I don’t disagree with his determination to want things done his way, but Charlotte has always been willing to play ball (pardon pun) to make things happen. On the flip side, I think this very public mess will, if anything, make CLT build in all kinds of protective mechanisms into any agreement to be sure that the city/county are not left holding any bags if things go south. Damn, another pun. Not intended…
  20. Interesting. I get the need to remodel to some degree if DG vacates and they subdivide that space, but they just renovated this center a few years ago. Surprised to see a do-over again so soon.
  21. https://theathletic.com/3345348/2022/06/01/panthers-david-tepper-rock-hill-bankruptcy/?amp=1 Welp, this looks to be the final nail in this coffin, unless someone with LLC bankruptcy expertise can come to another conclusion. But the last part of this quote I can’t quite figure out: ”In a statement, GT Real Estate (GTRE) said it has received a commitment for $20 million in financing from DT Sports Holding, LLC, subject to court approval, which will allow the company to fund a process to address its legitimate creditor claims, as well as to preserve, protect and enhance the Rock Hill site for the benefit of all stakeholders.” What’s to preserve or enhance?
  22. Watching them install these final panes is so satisfying.
  23. Yep. Growing up in the 80s, when I first became interested in cars, if you saw a Mercedes or BMW, you turned your head and watched till it was out of view. Now they litter the streets! It’s crazy how times change. Anytime I’m driving, fully 30+% of the cars I see are M-Bs, BMWs, Audis, Porsches, Range Rovers, Lexuses, Teslas, Volvos. Not to mention $60-80K+ pickup trucks and $100K Escalades. They’re the Ford Tauruses and Chevy Cavaliers of our time. It makes you wonder if, in 20 years, the streets will be filled with Phantoms and Lambos and Ferraris, silently skulking around Park Rd Shopping Center. Where do we go from here…?
  24. Was that at your house?? Thanks for the invite. Or maybe you were performing…
