Is that the only one in town or is there one in the Disco Mall?

Thanks for the info seaty. I'm curious, did The Body Shop, where Swarovski is now, leave the Disco Mall completely or did they just move to a different location in the mall?

"That's the Night when the Lights went out (near) Georgia." Wow it's come to this? I doubt COT will put them completely in the dark, but you never know. Feldman let our mall go.................please!
  5. I know I tease here a lot about what I affectionately call The RRM (Redneck Rumor Mill) and often times my mentioning it is in jest. However after what happened here on Friday w/the gas situation, The RRM is alive, well and powerful!
  6. Welcome and good to have you here dawg!

WTXL did a nice report on the stumbling of Tally Mall. They interviewed Steven Darby, the GM of Tally Mall. He has posted here on UP once or twice. My favorite quote from the story (watch the vid if you can) is "It'll almost be like Atlanta" Yeah a third mall will make us as big as ATL, good news for the airport. Tally Mall Struggling

DeVoe's Mega Strip Mall aka Pinnacle now set to open in: 2010 DeVoe states that part of the delay is b/c of the economy and then of course he states it is also w/acquiring permits. While that is probably true, DeVoe never misses a chance to bash the process from what I've seen...........and judging from the trail of ugly bldgs. he's left around town........that process isn't so strict. Of course I enjoy reading the rumor mill comments below in the Democrat. Let's repeat this again: There will be NO Nordstrom's or Bloomies at this location. It's going to either be JcPenny or Dillard's or both. Now the writing is on the wall Tally Mall. Find your direction by 2010.

Seems the RRM has been in full swing again. I've read and heard that Bloomingdales (Bloomies for short, not Blooms) is moving in Tally Mall. I definitely think this is wildly false! Bloomies(my favorite dept. store)actually has very limited stores throughout the country. In the past few years they just moved into the Orlando and San Francisco markets. If Jax and Tampa don't have a Bloomies, do you really think we'd get one? Our metro is way way too small and our median income IMHO is too low. IMHO we'll get a Nordstroms way before we'll get a Bloomies and I don't see that happening for years and years. Oh and BTW, if by some crazy cosmic line-up they did come to town, it would NOT be Tally Mall. Here's a map of Bloomies locations to prove the point: Bloomies locations (just scroll over the state to see locations)
  10. I completely agree w/tombarnes on this subject. Having lived in all 3 distinct regions of FL (South, Central and North) I appreciate Florida and love it for its diversity. Also having traveled to other states w/this diversity like CA, NV and NY, I prefer this situation much better than the "City-States" like Mass/Boston and GA/ATL. I must respectfully disagree w/your statement USF about under representation of the Big 4 Metros. This may have been true up to the 70's during the Pork-Chop Gang's domination, but it no longer holds true. For example my district here in Tally runs from here to the western burbs of Jax down to Ocala and Inverness. Central Tally has nothing in common w/these other areas. In most of the high density areas in FL, you can almost see from one end of the district to the other. Also don't blame those in the P'handle and North FL for the wacky things the Legislature does. Many of those wild ideas originate from elected officials along the I-4 corridor and SW FL....Paula Dockery (Lakeland) and Alan Hays (Umatilla) to name a few. As for spending, while Miami-Dade pays the most, it also takes the most. What Florida should do is concentrate on a better Florida in the form or better roads, schools and attracting high paying jobs. While tourism is great, we rely too heavily on it and our reps tend to pander to the AARP crowd who won't be here in 20 years while neglecting Florida's future...our kids!
  11. Hey Tally ranked number 3 and the highest ranked city in Florida. No surprises here and if you've walked anywhere lately, I'm sure you'll agree!

Wow another hit to Tally Mall and once again another vacant spot on North Monroe. Even though I wasn't much of a Goody's shopper, I'm rather surprised by this news. It looked like this store was somewhat busy most of the time. They only had 6 FL locations and they appear to be shutting down all of them BUT the Lake City location. I wonder if Kohl's entry into the FL market had anything to do w/these closings? Looks like they'll keep their GA border stores open in Bainbridge, T'ville and Valdosta. mracca, interesting theory and you may just be correct. You know at this stage of the Tally Mall's life they do remind me of Pompano Fashion Square. They lost Dillard's (previously Jordan Marsh) and then slowly but surely stores began pulling out until the place was almost deserted. It was a ghost town for what, 5 or so years and then they pretty much demolished the place or at least renovated it and changed it from an enclosed mall to an open-air one. Now it is thriving w/stores like Macy's to Office Depot to Lowe's. We can only hope this is what will happen to Tally Mall. BTW: I also read that Best Buy is slowly closing many of their Sam Goody stores. Do we still have one in Tally Mall? If so I wonder if and when they'll get the axe?

Can anyone confirm if they've started construction on the Panera at Tally Mall?

^Interesting news GG. Why are we now just getting an outlet type of store? I didn't even know Bass had those type of stores. Many metro's our size support a full-on Bass Pro, so why can't we? Montgomery, AL is one of them. While I'm sad to see Tally Mall lose them, it does seem more in-line w/what I see from Bass that they'd want interstate frontage out at DeVoe's Mega Strip Center (DMSC.) The only Bass I know of (and I don't know of that many off hand) that doesn't have interstate frontage is the one in Destin...mainly b/c there's no interstate there. The other point I wanted to make about the RRM and Nordstrom's is that if they even were coming to Tally (again we are way too small) they surely wouldn't go to Tally Mall. I think they'd be more inclined to pick Gov. Sq. or DMSC.

So nothing ever came of the Bass Pro rumor? I read elsewhere that the project was not going to happen. Is that true? I also read elsewhere that it had been RRM'ed that Nordstrom's wanted to move in here. This is definitely a RRM b/c Nordstrom's doesn't locate in metro's even close to our size especially here in the East.
  16. Glenn I drove that route from Palm Beach County about a month ago. We noticed that gas prices in the Cheifland-Perry corridor were just about the same as gas prices in Palm Beach County which typically has some of the state's highest gas prices. Those gas prices in that Nature Coast corridor dropped when you hit Ocala/Marion to the South and Tally/Leon to the North. I wonder what makes the Nature Coast so high? Is it low demand since those areas are sparsely population and see less travelers since there's no interstate or are the gas taxes high in the area like in PBC? I'm about to go to SF/NorCal in 2 weeks, can't wait to see what the prices will be like there. Out there was the first time I saw gas for $3 bucks in the states and we really thought at the time that was crazy. Now I'm sure on this trip we'll see as a common occurrence our first $4 gas prices.
  17. Yeah that's a sweet shot! Check out that Canary Island Palm over at 1st Baptist. Was that taken from the Highpoint Center?
  18. I found this one on the Democrat, but here's a local website we can all use: Best Gas Prices Around Tally
  19. Dear GG: You the bomb! Sincerely, The Poon
  20. ^Wow Glenn that Sam gas sounds cheap. When I drove by Costco today (4.23) they were charging $3.41 if I read it correctly. Where's emt, he lives out that way and should be able to confirm this.

I believe it was Southron that fixed it for us. That's the second time I've asked him for a housekeeping favor and he tends to do it in no time at all. Thanks again! seaty thanks for that scoop. I really really hope you are correct. I'd much rather see Bass go to Tally Mall than out to DeVoe's Mega Strip Center that "they've been waiting all their lives for" out east. Bass would really bring Tally Mall and the North Monroe Corridor back to life. No sweat seaty in posting this in the wrong place. As GG politely explained to you, I wasn't Cap. shouting at you, I was only trying to keep others from posting there until Southron made the change for us. Great scoop, keep us posted on any updates you hear about this please!

Hey I laced up by platform shoes, slid into my bell bottoms and boogied on down to the Disco Mall this week. A few things I noticed: Dillard's was much more organized this trip than my last one. They are actually in the process of doing some interior remodeling. That's a huge Forever 21. Hopefully they can fill their vacancy near the food court soon. I'm not a big fan of the management's slogan: "Welcome to the Mall Mom." I've seen that slogan for years b/c The Oaks Mall in Hogtown has been under their management much longer than our Disco Mall. That slogan seems too "old fashion" or fuddy-duddy" and not "hip enough" for cities w/young populations like Hogtown and Tally. Finally, THAT IS Mike Rucker working at S&K!

Thanks, I too use Disco Mall so often, I actually have to think for a second to remember what the real name is. I tend to nickname everything too. I wonder why we do that?
