  1. Finally! Now you will have a Denham Springs "By-pass " to the East connecting I-10 to the Magnolia Bridge & Central! With a Round about at Hwy 190 Juban north extension project begins in Livingston Parish https://www.wafb.com/2022/06/28/livingston-parish-juban-north-extension-project-begins/ “It’s going to be a four lane with a grass median. It’s about one mile and it will extend where Juban hits 190. You will cross the overpass, go due North to Lockhart and Burgess,”
  2. Downtown Commerce Building sold to investors for $24.7 million https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/news/business/article_3dadc7e2-f0c2-11ec-a2a0-9b210e2fbd19.html The Commerce Building, a mixed use property in downtown Baton Rouge, has been sold to the family of late auto dealer Price LeBlanc for nearly $24.7 million. Commerce on Laurel LLC bought the property at 333 Laurel St. in a sale that was filed last week with the East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court’s Office. The seller was Commerce Owner LLC, which was set up by by T.J. Iarocci of New Orleans-based Key Real Estate. Key Real Estate redeveloped the Commerce Building into a 93-unit apartment complex that also features The Vintage BR, a coffee shop/wine bar and a Salad Station restaurant. Plans are to continue operating the Commerce Building as is, But one change could involve vacant space on the rooftop of the building. When the Commerce Building opened in spring 2016, plans were to put a restaurant on the top. But that space has remained vacant for the past 6 years. It’s “very much up in the air” if the space will continue to be marketed for a restaurant or turned into additional apartment units, LeBlanc said. The Commerce Building, which opened in 1950, once housed a McCrory’s department store and offices. The department store closed in the mid-1990s and local developer Bob Dean bought the building in 1999. While Dean talked for years about redeveloping the property as an entertainment venue, nothing was done until Iarocci bought the building in 2012 for $1.3 million. According to the Commerce Building website, there are 13 apartments available for lease.
  3. Cool story from right here in Baton Rouge....name well known across MLB & College Baseball Inside the Baton Rouge company changing how major leaguers choose their bats https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/sports/lsu/article_0a5e5052-e995-11ec-bc1a-174b7b9288af.html
  4. Finally! Build the new roads! Not sure WHY Midway is called a "Boulevard" on this map? MoveEBR said it was only 2-lanes. It's actually called Midway Drive. Nice raised bike-lanes and sidewalks. New cut-through between busy Bluebonnet and Essen roads near hospitals is under construction https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/news/article_ecf487f0-ed92-11ec-9bbf-7b079fab54b4.html https://movebr.brla.gov/form/constantin-midway-bluebonnet-project-page

  7. Been a while since i have driven up Siegen Lane from I-10 to Airline...was pretty impressed with the development ; the empty tracts have just about filled up. Another hotel (Element?) and other businesses. This pic doesn't do it justice new 27, 500 sq ft Campus Federal Credit Union under construction next to Rooms To Go ( not pictured) ...looks to be 3 floors
  8. IMPRESSIVE PIC! Still remember that day as a little kid! BOOOM! What just happened? A Bomb? Thunder ? But it's not raining ! From over 10 Miles away! Yes indeed Some Record Breaking Cold ...think it got down to 8 degrees the night before.... I understand what you meant Dan326
  9. Your speaking my language Cajun! One of the BEST post on here in recent memory! THANKS for the visuals! Dig those ideas! Really like the West Star Tower! BR desperately needs some modern high-rise tower! Some eye candy ! The proposed tower on the bottom would be nice too! Looks to be the size of the IBM tower; expect on top the 4 floor podium for parking. That would look cool at the foot of the Bridge Even though Andres Duany suggestions for Plan BR in late 90's was to keep everything 12 stories or under .....BR still tried to move forward with the 30+ (one proposal l as much as 36 at on time) River Place. But it fell thru unfortunately . As did the 17 floor Laurel Plaza in 2006. And still no word (pipe dream?) on the 18 story Summit at Southgate Towers either. And contrary to popular belief there is no Height Ordinance for BR in reference to the 450'ft tall State Capitol.....they can actually build Taller.

    The Grove

Didn't get a pic Dawson Bluff Townhomes currently under construction; they have changed the look of that entire Grove development that was once an open field..
  11. Took this pic way back in late February; just never posted for some reason Nice looking new building on North Street & Sixth Street that was once an empty surface parking lot . Louisiana State Licensing Board Bldg is only 3 stories; because Louisiana Associated General Contractors decided not to be part of the project ; otherwise it would have been 4 floors This is what it originally was supposed to look like.
  12. You got a point Cajun! Those views would be blocked! A few years ago got the chance to look in one of the top rooms near Barnes & Nobles. That view was nice ; no Palm trees blocking the view. LOL! Thats's funny Cajun! Thankfully that was not my car! High Temps were close to the mid 90's today....looked like it was going to try to rain; but never did.

    Mid City

Old Champion Insurance building, prime Government Street property, sold for $3.3 million https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/news/business/article_9b41ec2c-e34c-11ec-b3fe-8f54db57091c.html The former Champion Insurance complex on Government Street, a prime property in a busy area of Baton Rouge, has been sold for $3.3 million to a group of partners from Cajun Ready Mix. CHL is made up of Steven Cheatham, Ryan Heck and Jason Lyngaas, all of whom are listed as partners in Cajun Ready Mix. Holcim US, a global cement, concrete and asphalt manufacturer, bought the Baton Rouge business last week and announced plans to rebrand it. The buyers plan to redevelop and improve the Government Street site, said Mathew Laborde of Elifin Realty, who represented the buyers. There were no further details to announce, he said. The complex consists of two buildings facing Government Street, with 8 acres behind them. One building is 40,272 square feet; the other is 17,881 square feet. There are 242 parking spaces on the property. There was a lot of interest on the property because it’s a square-shaped tract on Government Street. “Government Street is still on the rise from a development standpoint,” Walker said. The land will probably end up with multiple uses, such as putting a restaurant or offices in the front and developing apartments or self-storage in the back. "I'm sure it will contain a few different uses," Walker said.
  15. Judge rules against St. George incorporation https://www.businessreport.com/business/news-alert-judge-rules-against-st-george-incorporation A judge has ruled that the incorporation of St. George is “unreasonable” under state law. Incorporation supporters plan to appeal the decision. The court doubted incorporators’ ability to fully fund services and said the incorporation would harm the city of Baton Rouge.

  19. The Shed announces BR location opening date https://www.wafb.com/2022/05/25/shed-announces-br-location-opening-date/ The Shed Barbeque and Blues Joint is scheduled to officially open in Baton Rouge next month. The Shed location in Ocean Springs, Mississippi is a favorite stop for many Louisianians who drive through that area. Luke Forstmann, the owner of the new location on Burbank Drive in Baton Rouge, said their goal is to have their grand opening on June 13. The sign for the new location was put up earlier this week, replacing the sign for “The Oasis” restaurant that recently closed. The volleyball portion of that business remains open. Southern Living magazine named The Shed one of The South’s Best Barbeque locations earlier this year. The Baton Rouge location is currently hiring employees. Forstmann said applications are being accepted in person at their location at 7477 Burbank Drive.
