    Columbia Area Developments

Columbia needs to add more shopping to downtown. I recommend the city invest funds in reopening underground Columbia. I do understand that the economic status is not all that great at the moment but something needs to be done when it comes to retail. We have the condos, the colleges, the sports, the bars/dining, but there is a lack of retail.

    Columbia Off-Topic

I must agree with the comment above. Charlotte feeds heavily off of South Carolina. A great deal of the percentage of Winthrop Univesity graduates are constantly absorbed into Charlotte.

Just read an interesting article online about city populations. At first I believed that Columbia shoud have constructed the link between SC277 and I-126. But now I have a new look upon the situation. It is good that we have three interstates that surround our city. Many cities suffer tremdously because interstate spurs provide faster and more access to the suburbs and outer regions. With all of this inner city growth we have come to witness the city's job market shoud continue to rise.

Thats really interesting. In 2004 the census declared Charleston's population at 104,000 and now not even two full years later it is up to 115,000. Annexation must be frequent in that area. That is a 11,000 jump in less than 1 and 1/2 years.

I am very excited for the city of Columbia. I have a question though. With all of this residential building in the downtown area, around the stadium, annexation around Clemson Rd. and East Columbia wouldn't it be safe to say that Columbia will probably see a substantial growth in population and secure its place as the state's largest city?

With all of these projects coming to the Columbia area when do you think we will see that 30story or 40story tower given the green light? Or is it that since we are so close to Charlotte and Atlanta and share South Carolina with Greenville and Charleston that we are losing out on gaining more buildings downtown?

Due to USC's extensive planning and work for the future of downtown how much influence do you feel this will have upon the city as a whole?

Quick question. What is going on with the construction on 277? What are they doing to it?

Good evening everyone. I was driving around the Northeast area earlier today and I was apalled at all the construction going on in the Killian area. If more developments were planned for the city limits like those in this area than the population would be growing at alarming rates. I do understand that a great deal of developments are being conducted within the city limits. After all the Columbia Metro area is growing at a good rate. Another key area of growth is in the Rock Hill/Fort Mill Area. In the 2000 census Rock Hill, Sc had a population of 49,000 and in 2006 they currently have 58,000. Rock Hill, SC has now surpassed Greenville.

A new building is being proposed for the downtown area. If it goes through it is planned to be located on South Main. Lets cross our fingers.

I think it would have been very beneficial for the city if USC would have allowed the Carolina Panthers to play their first season at William's Brice. Do you think Columbia will ever receive a professional sports team?
