  1. This is welcome news for Baton Rouge. I am curious of any impact of the additional semi traffic on already heavily travelled Airline and Florida . Are additional lanes proposed, or will this be another "after the fact" (see Loyola airport flyover and the new NO North Terminal)?
  2. When questioned about the expected needs of the citizens, I find DOT in this state to be particularly arrogant in their responses.
  3. Thanks richyb83, corrected to read NC. Got carried away there...................it was another one, Amedysis that grabbed the loot for Nashville.
  4. It is unfortunate that Albemarle announced today they will be transferring another 200 office jobs from BR to NC, on top of those transfers announced last fall. All for only $2M in incentives from NC over 12 years. Didn't Louisiana provide them with $3.2M in Rapid Response Funds in 2010 when they relocated from Richmond promising to create 630 local jobs. To better protect taxpayers against "money grabbers", if they do not currently, LED needs to include a contract requiring any company receiving public incentives to remain a set minimum 20 years., in addition to the other requirements. Albemarle is nothing more than a prostitute....................Show me the money, I'll be there. So sad.
  5. Another idea to improve overpasses in Downtown...................This is the Wabasha Street bridge in St. Paul.
  6. Awesome idea! I would love to see DOT and the City agree to update the overpasses with landscaping and green space. Unfortunately the City and DOT have a very difficult time just picking up litter along the interstates.
  7. My best guess is they are saving space for the Marriott "M", at least let's hope so.
  8. Ideas to consider that may be implemented to relieve congestion until a new bridge can be constructed: Build a ground level controlled access road 4 lanes extending from LA 415/I-10 in WBR bypassing Brusly/Addis with Round a bouts at Plaquemine and Donaldsonville to connect with existing Sunshine Bridge and extending same controlled access 4 lanes to I- 10 north of Sorrento. Upgrade LA 10 to controlled access 4 road lanes from I-55 near Kentwood to I -49 near Washington, basically a north bypass for BR. Extend I-110 north from it's end at US 61 to Zachary providing much needed relief from a very poorly maintained and deteriorating LA 19.this could be part of future interstate extension from BR to Natchez and across to Vidalia north to Monroe and extending to Little Rock. Extension of controlled access road along Choctaw Drive from I-110 east and extending from Central Thru way across Amite River north of Denham Springs and around Walker connecting to I-12. Thoughts?
  9. IMO.....Baton Rouge is taking a step in the right direction. The new entrance at Florida Street and River Road is attractive and a huge improvement over the railroad ties and gravel that previously existed. The city needs to continue to emphasize it's location on this important river. Does anyone know if the tables and umbrellas are permanent? Am I the only one to recall a proposal showing a sculpture being located at this important vantage/entry point? The leaning garbage cans would also look more attractive if they were leveled by placing them on concrete pads.
  10. Does anyone know if Charlotte or NC offered incentives to Albemarle? I am certain LED did their best to dissuade Albemarle from leaving. Did LA or BR offer incentives when they relocated here from Richmond a few years back? This is sad. I was not aware that Amedysis is also relocating. Hell this is tragic! Did Tennessee offer incentives to them? My opinion only........it does not help when close-minded rants of one self serving governor offset all the hard work BRAF, BRAC, LED and others strive to attract Fortune 1000 companies here. (recall IBM grand ribbon cutting). I for one, will not miss him, cannot wait for him to leave office. (again........my opinion only)
  11. Great pics Antrell, reminds me of fond childhood memories visiting the Arsenal and Capitol grounds. Never said before, but just an Awesome job you are doing as a Mod. Thanks!
  12. richy....... While the re-do @ River Road & Florida Street is certainly a welcome and needed change, I noticed that actually constructed is not as reflected on the rendering, please note the renderings show attractive landscaped berms with trees and ground cover on either side of the entrance, certainly more appealing than the stark painted concrete walls that were actually constructed. Any idea why the change?
  13. Doesn't a westbound on-ramp already exist at this intersection? (quarter clover-leaf loops around on the northeast quadrant) How could they possibly require this from him?
  14. AMAZZZZZZZZZZING! LT I didn't think your photos could get any better, but each post is more awesome than that previous.
  15. Maybe DOT does read UP...........who am I kidding? Anyway....Kudos and better late than never, for DOT resurfacing the Florida Blvd intersection @ N Foster. Nice Job! While I am at it, maybe I will test my luck and add a few of more for them to consider: Joor @ Greenwell Springs Rds (LaDOT), N Lobdell @ Choctaw/Greenwell Springs Rd (CITY), South Blvd betw River Rd and Nicholson (CITY), River Rd betw Florida and Choctaw (LaDOT) and Government betw Acadian and I-110 (LaDOT) Any more?
  16. Good points cajun..... speaking of Florida Blvd, your idea of widening and eliminating the frontage roads reminds me of a "plan" or idea for mass transit being considered along Florida between CBD and Denham Springs....I could envision something like the electirc trains in Minneapolis or Houston, now that would speak volumes for "the next great city".
  17. Florida Blvd @ N. Foster Dr intersection.....Just whom does this major crossing belong to? Sorry guys, but I saw someone have a tire blowout here and....... I have called for months to both BR and DOT regarding the horrific condition of the pavement there only to be informed "it is not ours", the city at least tries but DOT only replies ..."no funds". Sure potholes are "patched?" only contributing to the washboard ride as one drives through the intersection, while a complete milling and repaving is required. Come on there must be 40,000 ADT between the two streets, one of the city's busiest corners, contributing to thousands of $$$ in gas taxes collected, yet the funds are used to resurface country roads that do not need them instead of major urban arterials. Get off your lazy a^^^^^es and do your jobs!
  18. thanks Richy, thats the first rendering I have seen of the Huey Long Bridge, man that is awkward looking.
  19. Interesting stuff....SBC. Superior Grill is one of my favorites here in BR, the St Charles Av location is another when I am in New Orleans. If you haven't already, check out the Corn and Shrimp soup at Bistro Byronz.
  20. Town square is nice and a step in the right direction, I hope they retain all of the beautiful canopy of Live Oaks..... IMO we really need to "reconnect" with the River, the area along River Rd between LASC and the Capitol seems so barren and uninviting. I remember the mayor of Atlanta dreaming and commenting with envy a while back...."What we could do if we had this river"............
  21. impressive shot La Thunder! good to see your photo's on here again.
  22. I heard somewhere that Netflix has one of their national distribution centers in the building directly to the west of FEMA.
  23. Heard a couple of BIG news items on a local sports talk show today, a LSU AD rep mentioned that LSU has added a home and home series against West Virginia with the first game in Tiger stadium in 2010 and the next year at WVU....nice BCS opponent. Also LSU is also looking at scheduling an out-of-state, neutral site game against a BCS opponent in 2010. Mentioned as prime sites were Houston, Dallas and Atlanta, because of LSU strong presence in those markets, and as a way to increase interest as no major BCS contenders are located in any of the three. Houston has the largest LSU alum base outside of La, Dallas is a close drive and we all know the success LSU has anytime they play in ATL, not to mention, many La transplants from that [beotch] storm. I like it!
  24. I have always been fond of the Coca Cola Bottling facilty on Airline, but it was no surprise they would eventually outgrow it, and with Go Zone Funds available, they wasted no time in planning and building a modern facility that I hope will be a catalyst to spur additional growth in underserved NBR. By the way....don't know if you guys noticed but the central Portico of the old Coke facility has upright Coca Cola bottles as part of its design. I always thought that to be ingenious.
