With it being the start of a new year, I thought it would be fun to begin a thread spotlighting/discussing public art in and around Nashville. I think it is a crucial element in the character and development of a city's character. This could include wall art, mosaics, statues, stained glass, murals, ceramics, fountains, carvings, metal works, textile crafts, engravings, stylized/customized furniture, ornamental designs, creative lighting, projections, etc. I don't think graffiti should count unless it is of an incredibly high grade. I think it would probably be best to post just one item at a time, or perhaps a set of pieces that are coordinated to go together. If you know the location and artists, that would be great to include, but not necessary if you can't find or recall specifics (that's why we have the thread---perhaps someone knows the origins and further details to help fill-in the blanks). Of course, art is quite subjective, and opinions on various pieces will be varied. Let's not go overboard in negativity, but try to appreciate various works for the diversity and cultural expansion they may engender. I'll start with some wall art honoring jazz musicians along Jefferson Street:
