LA style police chase in Charlotte

Charlotte TV viewers were treated to a true LA style Police Chase last night complete with live helicopter coverage courtesy WSOC-TV (WCNC and WBTV also have helicopters, but evidently their pilots were asleep at the time)

The suspects did the whole speeds above 100mph...darting in and out of traffic, running red lights, jumping over medians, driving through grass and driving over sidewalks. At the height of the police chase there were about 24 police cars from the FBI, NC Highway Patrol, and Char-Meck Police.

The chase ended just off of Wilkinson Blvd near downtown, with the suspects surrendering. However there were 2 NC Highway Patrol cars that got into a serious accident just before the chase ended. One NC Highway Patrol vehicle rolled a couple times down Wilkinson before coming to a stop.

This happens rarely in Charlotte. It ends up the suspect they were chasing is beleived by police to be the one responsible for the triple shooting at uptowns First Ward Place earlier this month.

Yeah, we saw the helicopters hovering...when you see that you know trouble is around....I was at home yesterday when all the helicopters were hovering over me due to the "suspiscious" package that was on a CATs bus at theTransit Center....ended up being a foam headrest wrapped in duct tape.
