^^ Regarding Thirsty Beaver, aren't they relocating across the street from Lupie's on 7th St next to Grier Heights?

The new 2 story building that is going to go up where Todd's flowers was is going to be leased to Novant Health.  Not sure if it will be an Urgent Care or just offices for affiliate doctors.

Where would one go? Do you have anymore info?

I don't know how reliable the person I heard from is, so I don't want to post information that is too specific in case it turns out to be false. Just wanted to throw it out there to see if anyone else in the area had heard the same thing.

I know for a fact, they looked at the church site at the corner of Hawthorne & Central but ultimately thought the logistics weren't there. I have no idea if they're continuing to look in Plaza.   I personally don't want them in the hood, as I have no doubt it will be suburban in construction with a giant parking lot.

I wouldn't be that pessimistic about Publix parking, they have done some good urban work (much better than Teeter has ever done). Having said that I can't imagine any site that remains in the hood being appropriate for a full size store. The only ones that scan are all compromised: Pecan-CSX-Independence (not visible or accessible enough); Family Dollar Center (surely Healthy Home has an exclusivity clause); Adjacent to the Teeter (Wells Fargo and Post office or the opposite corner at the strip center) (too damn close to the HT); further out Central towards Briaer Creek (too small unless the armory is in play); Corner of Central and Westover (gas station) maybe but will require structured parking.

Honestly I think they would be better off leading the market and building a full size store on N Davidson near 25th st station. That part of town is going to be totally and radically remade over the next five years.

What about the pool supply/office supply block on Central between Hawthorne and Oakland? I have no idea if it is available, but I think the office supply building has been for lease for a while. I guess this technically isn't Midwood, but might as well be. Would likely require structured parking.

It's not in Plaza-Midwood, but maybe Publix should look into the space between Hawthorne, Elizabeth, and 4th. Wasn't that once planned as a location for a Whole Foods (or was it the other side of Elizabeth)? Plenty of space along that tract of land, not to mention it would be along the Gold Line.

I'd look for Publix at 36th and North Tryon.

Interesting....

Project Description:

  Retail at N Tryon and E 36th
The project is the development of three parcels at the southwestern quadrant of the intersection of N Tryon St and E 36th Street. The proposed project proposes the construction of two buildings with associated parking, utilities and stormwater management

There are two versions of this plan. One that is for a large Urban style grocery, with stacked parking. One that is Two smaller retail spaces. I'm hoping for the two smaller spaces personally. I'd like to see NoDa anchored by a Trader Joes in front of Crescent Noda Station.

If you do a little digging, you'll see that both of those plots of land are owned by the same people.

The office supply warehouse is owned by an LLC called 1120 LLC, which is registered to Morgan Madison and has an official business address on Tapperty Circle.

The pool supply warehouse is owned by OBMorgan Properties LP and MORPOOL Holdings LLC...both of which are registered at the same address on Tapperty Circle.

In short, the same person owns all that land.

I'm hoping for TJ's at Crescent Noda as well!  Hopefully we hear something soon on the retail portion of the project.

Can you please share and elaborate over on the NoDa thread?  Any potential development at this gateway into the NoDa area would be huge...

I actually heard that Publix or Whole Foods (forget which) had been in some preliminary discussions on this plot but they couldn't make the numbers work at the time.

Could have been both but I heard Publix. I could have been getting dated information, but this is where I heard a Publix would go.

I'd love to see something urban in nature go on that corner, but a grocery store like Publix will make traffic on Central even more of a nightmare than it already is.

For the site next to City Supply, hopefully a bottle shop, PM needs a true bottle shop like Good Bottle badly.

Construction has started on this building.

Update on 2245 Mecklenburg according to Next Door: Red Cedar sold the option on the land to Classica Home Builders, who plan to continue with the 6-home project.

Info they sent to neighbors is attached.

The neigborhood association and noculdesac.org organizers are planning a town hall meeting with the Mayor and neighbors and inviting Classica. Supposed to happen this month.
