So, I just got a teleworking position and looking to move to a spot near downtown Richmond. Looking at areas near Scott's Addition, Manchester near the bridge to downtown, edge of Shockoe Bottom and Church Hill area. I keep hearing about the "crime wave" going on in Shokoe bottom, ;ack of places to get groceries and the distance from downtown for Manchester, and that Scott's addition is the best place to go.

 

I will be doing telework at home, so really looking for a nice view since I will see that very often, any advice from the group?

If I moved back to Richmond, I would go back to the Museum District.  I would still pick that neighborhood over the others.

I think Manchester is what you are looking for if the goal is a downtown neighborhood with a variety of viewpoints. Check out some of the larger towers going in along the river there - unparalled views of both the skyline and of the James River are from the south side in my opinion. South Falls, River's Edge at Manchester, Terraces at Manchester, Overlook at City View etc.  

Ignore the trope about a 'crime wave' - a slight homicide uptick but limited to certain areas. Also, the grocery point in Manchester ... people on Reddit bring this up constantly but most seem to be people of means and recent transplants   trying to tap in to something in order to feel like a local- no there is not a grocery store now but Kroger and Farm Fresh are 5 mins by car. Yes it would be lovely to have a store in walking distance to said lofts and Is it a 'food desert' - yes, for those without a car or a smartphone. Regardless, this will change soon - critical mass there is calling for something.

At this stage in my life, I would too. I've lived in various parts of both the Fan and the Museum District way back in the day. I also went to high school in the Museum District. It's an amazing part of the city.

Now - if I was significantly younger, I might consider Manchester or Scott's for a variety of reasons. My dad managed a printing company in Scott's Addition for more than 20 years (and worked for that company for more than 40 years) before retiring in the early '90s. I spent a lot of time in Scott's when I was a kid (usually walking to and from the Dairy Bar at Curls Neck Dairy) to get lunch during the summers that I hung out with my dad at the printing plant.
