I watched some of these proceedings on the city channel today. The $37,500 is going to be used to develop models and example works so that they can go around and raise funds. What I found interesting was that this is the first time I've ever seen Mike Regan support a public art project. He's the most outspoken conservative on the council, but it seems that when they can get $7,037,500 worth of private-sector investment in art, a $37,500 start-up fee is well worth it. He said he viewed the $37,500 from city council as help with the fundraising effort (which his rather dogmatic black-and-white principles do allow him to support) rather than direct acquisition of art (which he disagrees with at every chance).
