Found a rendering. Does look like it would be near Tredegar if the background buildings are supposed to represent the  skyline.  Maybe even Belle Isle?

this is probably not a new development but your Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is a real treasure for your city.  It is GREAT museum.  My friend who is new to Richmond compared it to Metropolitan in NYC!  It is fantastic.  Photos from Friday and the Confederate Chapel as well.   Great history on the site as well with the old home restored there.

The museum is about to undergo another expansion.  An additional 100k square feet of gallery space is planned.

Seeing as the 2010 addition is probably one of my favorite RVA architectural projects of the past decade,

I'm very excited and have high expectations for what the next wing will look like. The McGlothlin wing is so stunning.

Not a lot of new details, but they plan on starting construction by the end of the year on the new parking garage.   The old parking lot will be turned into green space, that will make a "6 acre park" from Terminal to DMV.  At the Center of the green space will be a $1 Million dollar Art installation.

Also, I notice the lot Robinson/Broad is being cleared. Anybody know what is going in there?

Not having a huge parking lot in front of the Children's museum will make that stretch of broad look a lot nicer.  

 

I wish they would connect the law in front of the children's museum with the one in front of the science museum.  With a parking garage, it doesn't make sense not to for just a few extra spaces.

Perhaps temporarily to handle displaced parking during construction?

No, the William Byrd leaded the lot to the owner of the Bank of America building for parking.

Looks like construction has started on the Science Museum parking deck.   There is a barrier installed and heavy equipment on site (starting to demolish the parking lot under the site).

Site seems to be no longer active and I cannot find any new information on the Hall of Fame.  Hopefully it's not dead.

In other news, the Children's Museum of Richmond is shutting down their Short Pump location.

Yeah, this is not a good sign.  It would be awesome to have such a facility in Richmond.  I'm expecting the worst, but hoping for the best - my fingers are crossed!

I am actually okay with the Short Pump shutdown.  I never liked them trying to have a suburban spin-off rather than keeping Richmond as a consolidated destination.

Virginia Museum of History is slated to start renovations next month. 

“The renovation will bring a new entrance and great hall, a new café with indoor and outdoor seating, a second floor event terrace, a new immersive theater, new exhibition spaces, a new research library with a rare book and manuscript suite, and an expanded parking lot.”

It’s good to be able to brag about another world class facility like this in Richmond. Looks like it will be a destination location (if it’s already not one)!

This really is impressive. With Richmond on such a great roll this decade - and such strong projections from city planners - any additional destination boost such as this will make 340,000 population by 2037 an increasingly likely proposition. How I'd love to see that happen.

Like you said, sprucing up the lots adjacent to 95 cleans up the city image a ton. This should be pretty iconic.

That is gonna be a gorgeous piece of architecture for the city. It's interesting to me that a second tower for the James Monroe building has never been built.
