Thank goodness Palmer’s lives on! I just got a flashback of the old garden center at the Monkey Ward on West Colonial back when @JFW657 and I were young and pretty. It was quite large compared to anything Sears or Target ever had in town.

I worked in the garden center at Montgomery Ward in Cocoa for about a year in 1978-79.

My mom worked there for about 15 years. She started out running the snack bar, moved to the candy & cosmetics department where she became department manager, then moved to the back office. She was working there while I worked there.

Earlier, in 1976, I worked at the Piper Aircraft plant in Vero Beach with my dad and my sister.

So I've worked with every one of my family members.

According to streetview, they've been closing for a while.  Last I went over there, they were struggling to supply trees and referring me to other nurseries.

Blodgett Gardens on Edgewater closed a few years ago too.

Had a meeting downtown for the first time in a long while and took a photo looking north from Central (pardon my poor Photoshop skills in splicing two images together).  It was cool to see a handful of projects adding density to downtown and the Lake Ivanhoe / Advent Health area.

I'm not trying to start a fight (lol), but from this incredible view, the lot where Zoi House was proposed is begging for our new tallest.  :)

Looking South as a northbound sunrail train approaches. I didn't have any intent in making this happen the way it did but I just saw happened to be on the bridge while the train was coming and I thought this would be a pretty great shot of our city right now!

Posted a 25 second video of this happening on YouTube if anybody wants to see it.

Everybody sing: “There’s something about a train…” Awesome job, Florida Born!

Since we don't have an Orlando History thread, I guess this one will do.

I was PM'd by someone whose screen name I don't recognize. But he had read an old post of mine about having a photo of the old Buddy Ebsen house on Hyer and Pine. He said hus son lives there now and asked me if I could send him the pic. I did so and also did a search to see if I could find a pic from before the renovation.

Didn't find one, but I did find this OS article dated Dec. 2. 1976....

Seems that the large gym section was built in 1975.

Ms. Bethea bought the house from  the Ebsen family around 1965 or 1966.

Just like I couldn’t figure out why I didn’t remember when the old Vo-Tech school burned in the Magnolia-Rosalind-Livingston triangle, I didn’t remember that. In both instances, it turns out, I was living out of town when they happened. It seems Orlando’s much safer when I’m here ;)

Here’s a visual. I didn’t remember about this either until I read this post.
