Yes,  the ideal is that people from Emporia and other areas of south side will drive to Petersburg and take the bus to work in Richmond.

Hotel Petersburg is under renovation currently dealing with lead paint abatement. 

Hopefully will be open in 2021 Location downtown Petersburg.

Interest in a hotel downtown is a great sign. 

I’m cautiously optimistic that Petersburg will finally take off soon.  Such great potential (and good beer!) there.

A lot will have to change, but, given its history and proximity to the Appomattox River, Petersburg could be charming destination akin to  downtown Fredericksburg.  Rapid transit to downtown Richmond would certainly help, not to mention solidify the region.

I drove around Sycamore Street in Petersburg to capture some of the development going on in the last year and presently.  Also according to the Architectural Review Board, 15 more projects are in the pipeline for redevelopment in the near future.  Petersburg and Short Pump are almost the same distance from Down Town Richmond, the region will eventually see Petersburg as an affordable alternative.  

 

A new hat shop is starting to set up shop here, the facade should be getting ready for a face lift. 

These three buildings on the end have been undergoing renovation, two are completely finished. 

Construction is commencing on El Mundo De Las Delicias, they are going to restore the facade to its original 1850's facade.

These three buildings have had apartments all installed above them and just finished up, the building on the end here is starting to have its commercial space renovated as the two others have already been compleated in the last year. 

Dj has added this addition for the finished apartments over his commercial space to allow for a stairwell and elevator this year. 

This group of builds has all been undergoing renovation in the last year apart from the one on the very end. 

 

The Inn is finishing up on its renovation. 

 

This building is undergoing renovation for a new candy shop. 

 

Local Vibes has taken over the old building next door and is renovating it. 

 

The courthouse is completed, still missing its chandelier. 

 

These two buildings have been renovated this year. 

 

 

This building is being renovated, they just got done painting the bricks this week. 

 

This building was one of the extremely run down buildings in the district and is being renovated for apartments and retail. 

This old mansion on Sycamore towards central park was just purchased and the planning commission has approved it to become an event venue and bed and breakfast.  

 

Bon Ran has just renovated this building and opened a restaurant here.

The 110 South Perry Street groundbreaking event was a success. New CMI VA (Veterans Affairs) Clinic to be built in Petersburg just outside of the  Downtown Historic District.  26,000 sf

The hotel project is coming along nicely and was recently approved to have a roof top bar/ restaurant. Also 400 apartments are coming online downtown as Thalhimer is putting in 200 more on top of the 200 in the art lofts.

They are also bringing over 350 jobs to Petersburg.

Looks like Petersburg's "Gateway" building may be coming down soon.  The developer has done nothing with it and has over 140 safety violations!  The owner and developer - what a complete joke and clown show!  Hate to see this building get demolished (because I had hoped it would get redeveloped into a beautiful new-looking building), but demolishing it would be the next best thing.  It is a complete eyesore.  It's the first impression of the Richmond Metro area when traveling up I-95 and it's not a good one.  Something has to be done.  Your thoughts?

Yeah, this is great news for Petersburg, which really needs good news these days.  Interestingly, this is the second announcement in as many days, of new jobs being added to the Metro area.  I was hoping to go 3 for 3 today (I guess there's still time)!

Fully agreed. Petersburg - and the whole Tri-Cities area really needs good news. With all of the big doings across the RVA metro, it's painful to see the Tri Cities left out. They're the southern tip of metro RVA - it would be awesome to see those localties benefit from all the growth of the region.

There are some beautiful homes in Petersburg.  I must confess that I have never really given the place much thought.  That needs to change.

These are fantastic photos! Petersburg really does have a treasure trove of beautiful buildings. It's good to see so much work is going into renovations. Here's hoping that the economic boom that the overall RVA metro area is enjoying will bring more investment to Petersburg and keeps good momentum there going.

These are very encouraging photos of Petersburg!  It behooves all of us to pull for Petersburg's revival because it is very much so in the Richmond Metro area and is actually the gateway to Richmond coming from the south up I-95.  Would LOVE to see Petersburg take off.  Right now it looks so run down and drab...not a good "welcome" for visitors or passers-by driving through the Metro area.

Downtown Petersburg has so much potential for higher density and at the same time maintain its architectural charm.  Sixteen years ago I gave a tour to some investors throughout Downtown however no one had interest.

I know this project has been mentioned before but I’m really looking forward to this project in the tri cities. It’s an update from bizsense a day or two ago. If it turns out like the renderings show it will be a very nice place to stay.
