**Residential Towers in Manchvegas**

Recommended Posts

I emailed a city planner in Manchester if we were going to get a new tallest. He said he hasn't seen any plans about a new tallest but he said "there will be two relativley minor residential towers next door to the Hilton." He also said the the area behind the ballpark where JacPac foods used to be is going though a study for future development. I'm gettin excited.

Nothing.  They just combined the Manch from Manchester and the Vegas from Las Vegas to come up with Manch-Vegas.  Its just a nickname

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I heard they call it that because of all the gambling that was going on last year.

Ah I see. I was thinkin it must have somethin to do with gambling.

When I moved to NH, I was explained that it was called Manch-vegas because it was like the center of entertainment in New Hampshire, much like Las Vegas is in Nevada.

Anyway it became a running gag with my friends and I that included Roch-vegas and Laschester (Las Vegas)

manchvegas has been around for at least ten-fifteen years. How it was explained to me was....no one who grew up in manchester/nashua ever really left the state to go to school....choosing to go to plymouth, durham or keene. Well, growing up, we felt that manchester and nashua were small towns until we lived in REAL small towns....thus in perspective, manchester seemed like a sprawling metropolis. The two that were going on in the late 80s were 'manchvegas' and 'manchangeles'

yeah...annoying...but sort of quaint
