You're joking, right?

Not in the least. I moved up here from Orlando and really didn't expect much of a nightlife at all in G'Ville. However, you really never know what you're going to see downtown in the evenings here. Tonight, for example, it was a mixed crowd:

-High School Prom Goers

-The "typical" Peace Center Crowd

-A lot of people dressed oddly enough like cowboys (here for the S.C. State High School Rodeo, I suppose)

-Tourists

The college kids (from Furman and Clemson...NOT from Bob Jones) are usually out during the evenings here, too.

thats cause our whole music scene (at least around my age) is hardcore/emo. If we had a more diverse type of scene, our scene would be a hell of a lot better.

It will get better as the city grows, but it will take a lot of time. More diversity in our population will demand more venues as well as alternatives to the cookie-cutter cover bands that I always hear at Uptown clubs and bars.

Heard a great musician named Robbie Fulks up at the Evening Muse (North Davidson and 36th) last week. Lots of fun. New bluegrass band at the Comet Grill (Shorty is taking the summer off) on Tuesdays. They're good, but have no fiddle player. Of course, the Double Door is always great, regardless of season. JOBULA (rock/jazz/fusion), a wild band from Charlotte plays there regularly and are hot to listen to and look at. The lead singer is a siren and she can really belt out some notes!

Question: Is it true that Jeff's Bucket Shop on Montford has become a fetish bar?! That't the story I got from someone at Moosehead last night.

Yeah, Jeffs does the fetish thing now, but only 1 day a week as far as I know. There was a pretty good article on it in Creative Loafing about a month ago. I stoped in there the week Star Wars was coming out. They do "themes", so that week was a Star Wars theme. They have a overhead projector and screen that was playing the original star wars movie, but was told on most weeks its soft porn and things like that. There's still a good mix crowd that goes though, you could go in khakis and a polo and not be shut out, I wasn't. I'd bet they could do the fetish thing all week since theres not alot of bars that are geared towards that crowd in Charlotte.

I have to say Charleston. There are just more people and more activity on the streets than even Charlotte. But the top 5 Carolina cities would be:

1. Charleston

2. Myrtle Beach

3. Charlotte

4. Greenville, SC

5. Greensboro

I have only been in Charlotte since March so I can't really say I "know" the scene. However the first thing I did when I moved down here was find a new band (i'm a musician). I have only seen nu-metal and metalcore bands here in Charlotte. I pretty much goto EVERY local show so even though I've only been here a short time, I have seen many bands. Yes, it most certainly does suck. That is the case in many cities though, kids will play what they hear on the radio.

I am a musician too. B)  What instruments do you play??? You might want to check out Tremont and Amos's for live shows. Just my two cents.

Tremont and Amos's pretty much account for about 85% of shows that I goto. I was just at Tremont on sat for that Mullet Militia show *gag*. I might as well have entered a black hole of talent. I'm so tired of all these nu-metal posers contributing to the culture of suck.

I play guitar and sing. Currently I'm doing vox for a local metal project. It is sort of a blend of modern techmetal stylings (polyrythms, syncopation, odd time signatures, phrase writing) infused with traditional deathmetal thrashing.

What do you play?? we should jam sometime dude

I am guitarist as well. I play everything from Hard Rock to Classical. I love it all. I actually majored in music. Specifically Theory. YUCK!!! :w00t: I will definately have to "PM" you sometime to see when the next show is and possibly get together for a jam session. In the mean time keep rockin' and best of luck in Charlotte ! BTW, we need to start a thread that not only points out best nightlife, but keeps all of our music lovers out there abreast of the latest shows. This goes for all of the Carolinas, North and South. I have no problem driving to a show, in say, Columbia or Greensboro, if it is WORTH the drive.
