An interesting development coming to the intersection of the Powhite and Chippenham Parkways. Mixed use, but not too many other details. I assume they will be forthcoming.

I would love to see some high-density housing and retail in that area and would be highly disappointed if plans come out to reveal more suburban sprawling retail (ugh).  The location is great and should follow the trend that Short Pump is beginning to follow:  build up (as in tall - more density)!

I do not recall seeing this prior.  Fairfield Commons Mall to be replaced by Eastgate Town Center and anchored by a Walmart Super Center:

Anyone else heard of this one? I hope it similar or even better than a Great Wolf Lodge to bring folks into the area year round. I'd go if it's done right and is nice. Few details are mentioned;

A few more details and a rendering from Richmond.com...looks very sexy and I think it will work. Richmond needs a destination venue like this!

I wanted to post this mainly because it talks about the 18-story tower to be built next to the ICA. Good to know that it is still on the radar!

Uphoff is also planning an 18-story apartment building in Richmond near Virginia Commonwealth University. The building will abut the forthcoming VCU Institute for Contemporary Art. Uphoff says the building, once completed, will be the tallest in Richmond geographically, measuring height from sea level. With 129 apartments, the $43 million building will include an infinity edge pool, garden deck and two-story penthouse suites on the top floor. Uphoff says there’s talk of VCU renting out a floor to house visiting VIPs.

“We think it’s going to be very sought after because of its strategic location next to VCU, and it’s literally contiguous to the arts center,” Uphoff says. He points to the new arts center, renovations at the Altria Theater and planned improvements to Monroe Park as evidence that the location is on the rise. “That whole area is getting a huge insurgence of capital improvement to really augment the city of Richmond and make it a fantastic destination location.”

The developers of the forthcoming West Broad Marketplace have finalized the $20 million purchase of nine parcels, totaling about 61 acres just west of Short Pump Town Center in a deal that closed Dec. 3.

Looking great.  However, according to the article, the taller building will be only 4-floors as compared to the 6-floors within the posted rendering.  Hopefully the 4-story version will be similar in design.

Here is the Regency sale to Rebkee-Thalhimer article:

I foresee this working better as a dense mixed use development that reconnects the surrounding street grid. Even if it was renovated as a Regency 2.0 and became successful again it would probably be to the detriment of Stony Point--so I don't like the idea.

I agree.  Given that it is in the Tuckahoe MS/Freeman HS district, I would imagine that housing, especially for families, would be desirable there.

I have not seen this posted.  One of three medical office buildings proposed within Towne Center West is well underway.  Currently structural steel is being installed.  This structure will be quite visible from Broad St.

Photos anyone?  A construction webcam maybe?  :(

Funny you guys mention the new medical center in town center west. I was just by there yesterday and it is rising very quickly. it has some good height to it so far. I was going out to Stranges in short pump and was hoping to go past by the wegmans but didn't get out that far. I might try to make it out that way soon maybe next weekend on a sunday. I am going to be out of town on saturday up in DC for a baseball game at the nationals stadium.

A couple of weeks ago, the Wegmans site was still dirt.

This may not be downtown Richmond news, but it seems that banks are flocking to the Richmond area as of late.  This is good news for sure, but I wish EVB were thinking about moving downtown instead of in Hanover...but I'll take it:
