That Arby's sign though, it's a Richmond icon, should end up in the Valentine.  https://thevalentine.org/  although it's huge and it could end up at the Field day of the Past.  https://fielddayofthepast.net/

There are several of those old Arby's signs rusting away in a lot off of Hermitage (I assume the local franchisee HQ).  It's a shame to see the former highway icons like that, you can see them if you zoom in on Google street view here: https://www.google.com/maps/@37.5627689,-77.4604075,3a,15y,267.77h,89.72t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sUcsIuPE6h5x_EPyxRUSazg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

This is a rendering of the NOVA aquatics center taking over spaces at Regency.  They're on Gayton Rd. now,  and for whatever reason, there's an understatement when it comes to their facilities.  Does anyone else think this looks like a Walmart?  I will say, the one on Gayton doesn't have nearly enough parking, this  location will handle the load when they have tournaments and it will be a much better facility for them.

Why not let various artists use it as a canvas like the the street art fair, because this is boring as hell.

A new smaller arena in Henrico at Virginia Center Commons?!  Looks like that is the recommendation from county officials to the Board of Supervisors.  Rebkee Co. will be the developer of choice. Plan is to build a 4,500+ seat arena containing 12 basketball courts.  Pretty impressive Henrico!

Here is an additional article about this with more information as well as some renderings!  Enjoy!

My one concern is that if coming from the north or west, out-of-towners will never see downtown Richmond and never get to experience what it has to offer. On the other hand, that is not Henrico’s aim - instead it is to focus on Henrico only.  Hope the area on the east side of I-95 gets developed with taller structures across from the VCC location. Otherwise, it’s going to feel pretty rural as you drive in (especially from the north)!

The other side is swamp from the Chickahominy so do not expect any development there any time soon.  As Coupe said, given the likely events I imagine most traffic will be generated along I-295 (including families via RIC).  Perhaps some of the northern counties will hold graduations there rather than the Seigel Center, but I would be surprised if it generated much more than that down I-95.

VCC is such a prime location to be redeveloped into a mixed use town center.  SFH, Townhomes, apartments, office, small retail footprint, greenspace, etc.   If only I had the money!

I cringe when I see the word "town center".

I think this is great news!  Who would have thought 5 years ago that Wegmans would even open a store in the Richmond area and now there is not only one, but 2 stores.  AND on top of that, they are about to build this massive distribution center in the area as well.  A lot has changed for Richmond in the past decade!  I just hope Richmond can continue to ride this wave to the point where it actually becomes a place people across the country know about Richmond and can speak very fondly of it.  Would love to see it become a real destination location!  Wegmans showing confidence in the area certainly helps!

A 5-story, 320-unit apartment building will replace the Sears building at Regency Square Mall.  Demolition of the Sears building will begin in the next couple months and construction will begin in the Spring. The first units will be ready for occupancy in 2021.  The building will be completed in 2022.  Some nice renderings of the project are found using the link below.  Hopefully, you have a free click on the RTD website to see them.  Anyway, I think the area over there is really shaping up nicely:

Trying to get an idea of the exact location of this surf park.

The GPS coordinates list it as across 288 from River City Sportsplex: 37° 27’15.68″N  77° 38’22.29″W

I’m not sure about these renderings, but I’m actually excited about this project.  Besides the actual facility, I’m probably more excited about the second and third order effects that bringing in out-of-towners will have on the local economy...maybe even  prompt many to move to Richmond!  I’m all for that!
