Good for Greenville! Is the west side of town an area that could particularly use such a facility as the Kroc Center?

Yes, KROC center's are supposed to be a bridge between income levels. There is not a better place to bridge the wealth of downtown and North Main with the West End's less fortunate.

Another great article in today's Greenville News. The KROC Center is now awaiting fundraising to achieve its goal. The community center is being designed by Craig Gaulden Davis, who hope to have a groundbreaking within a year. The list of amenities is still changing, but we can expect to see a junior golf course, tennis complex, gymnasium, artificial turf fields, teen center, fitness and walking trails, conference center, first- and second-shift child care and a performing arts facility. It will also be home to the expanded Boys and Girls Club, which will have an education center with a computer lab, and administrative offices for the Salvation Army. The Mayor sounds very excited about the probable impact the center will have on the future of West Greenville.

Cool. I wish the city well in its fundraising efforts. Interestingly, Columbia has already raised over $1 million for a Kroc Center and they haven't even been awarded a grant yet and Greenville has.

Well the salvation army has raised some money. We just don't how much. And putting it frankly, they have just now started the official public fund drive.

Any news on Kroc Center? I know they just received that 500,000 donation. They should be very close to having all the funds. Is there a web address that anyone knows of, where you can follow the fundraising process?

This is a cool site about the Kroc Center Ice Arena in San Diego. This would be very "cool" for Greenville too!
