VCU approved a new master plan.

 

It looks like the Franklin Street Gym will finally be redeveloped.  After that, Franklin will be looking very nice.

After scrolling through the master plan, I noticed a few MAJOR projects:  I noticed a performing arts center across the street from the ICA (not super tall but a very attractive rendering of a significant building).  Also noticed that right beside the Adult out-patient facility under construction, they plan another couple taller buildings to the east of the Adult out-patient facility (all connected with internal or external walkways).  There also appears to be a tall-ish building to the northwest of the Adult Out-Patient facilty a block or so away.  Renderings of 12-story glass curtained buildings appear beautiful.  All of this and that doesn’t include the $350M Children’s Hospital. Wow!  There are some great, significant towers/buildings in VCU’s future!  This is all going to be exciting to watch!

Took this today. I know I seem negative about a lot of these buildings, but it's just my opinion. I really think this one sucks too... could have been way better and what was there was more visually appealing IMO.

Idk if it offers much new but it is a full 92 pages longer so who knows

edit: there's an interesting rendering of what looks to be the next high rise on MCV campus on page 105: the "Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Building, Library and Innovation Center" on the block directly to the east of the under construction adult outpatient facility.

Soon there will be a line of tall tower cranes within just a few short blocks from each other!  It’s going to look glorious!!!!

Looks interesting enough.  Just because I like “tall,” I’d still like to see the 13-story planned tower for that location.  Although I’m not opposed to this one either. 

Keep looking for that web cam!  Hopefully, one will pop up soon!

Agreed.  That is a marquee intersection.  The buildings flanking it should reflect that.  Showcasing VCU/RVA's artistic acumen would achieve that.  As a nod to eandslee, height wouldn't hurt there either.

The view into town from I64 won’t be so sad a few years from now!   I love this addition and how the focus of the building will shift to Marshall Street. 

 

I see some light construction/landscape design on the academic campus.   Is VCU finally installing the arches at Shafer and Franklin  (and Main)?

Still can’t find a good webcam that shows the construction over there in detail.  Surely one has to be put up soon. Goodness, this is a HUGE project for VCU...Wouldn’t make any sense not to!

Noticed they were doing some drilling on the site the past few business days as well. Surely a tower crane will be installed soon.

Children’s Hospital will have a couple cranes too. 5 cranes within 3-4 blocks.
