Scenic Swamp Rabbit Trail gets Greenville moving

The article says that on average 1,200 people use the trail. Pretty impressive, IMO. Let's EXPAND it!!1

I spoke with the clerk at the BP station in TR, and he said he often gets customers that are from out-of-state who have traveled here specifically to ride the SRT.

Not out-of-state, but I have family who live in Seneca and they come over pretty often to bike the Swamp Rabbit, as do some of their friends in the Seneca/Clemson area.

Great press for Greenville’s cycling community this week. First, Southwest Airlines Spirit Magazine referred to Greenville as “Cycle City”. On top of that, the May issue of Town Magazine devoted seven pages (60 to 66) to their “Hot Wheels” story about bicycling in Greenville. It’s very cool to see Bikeville called out in the story too!

Plans are being made for a new park in downtown Greenville that will be home to mountain bike trails and a pump track. On Sunday, November 20, come join Big George Hincapie for a benefit bike ride that will raise money for this new park. The park will also include a memorial trail for Jeff Papenfus, an avid mountain biker and adventure racer who passed away suddenly in July. The road ride will begin at Hincapie Sportswear at 10am, and include 30 and 56 mile ride options. Big George Hincapie will join us for the longer ride. A silent auction will also be held to raise additional money. A $25 donation gets you a ride with George, lunch, beverages (BEER!) and post-ride activities. If you can't make the ride, your donation still gets you lunch and fun times.

Does anyone know details about the park being referenced? Is this the proposed Reedy River Park (aka Cleveland Park West)?

From GreenvilleOnline.com: "While riding with Hincapie is a lure, the big picture is raising money to build mountain bike trails near the Sliding Rock Creek section of the Greenville Hospital System Swamp Rabbit Trail in the Nicholtown neighborhood. The city owns about 20 acres in the Sliding Rock Creek area and is acquiring another 13 acres nearby." The Sliding Rock Creek Trail branches off the Swamp Rabbit Trail behind the Caine Halter YMCA on Cleveland Street and runs generally eastward toward Sterling School, which is off McAlister Road. See
