Nautic Brewing to open on edge of Unity Park

Bordering the site of the City of Greenville’s proposed Unity Park, Nautic Brewing will establish its home at 101 S. Hudson St., next to the Miracle Hill Rescue Mission on the corner of West Washington and South Hudson streets. An adjoining property will provide expansion room and parking for the brewery.

Southernside residents not pleased with this

Well I maybe able to elaborate better on that. The city and the residents of the southern side neighborhood have a long standing agreement of not allowing establishments that serve alcohol. That means if you have to get a liquor license, they don’t want it. That’s the reason no one has opened anything in the old nightclub space next to the post office. I personally know of a couple that wanted to open a restaurant there. But couldn’t get the approval of the whole neighborhood. Now in that case. The Hampton-Pinckney folk were in favor of it. But the Southernside folk didn’t. And that’s probably what’s going on here.

That location was pretty notorious 10-20 years back when it was a nightclub.  A sit down restaurant would probably be no problem in reality,  but bad memories die hard.

Land Swap for Unity Park

The city and the Salvation Army are swapping land around the park. The SA is swapping 4 acres of land North of Willard Street along the Reedy for about 1.3 acres along Hudson at the Reedy River bridge. (Tax IDs: 0056000200601 and 0056000200602. Teh city is also pay SA $70k toward it's completed purchase of 0056000200300 which adjoins the other two.

Given the land SA will be getting is right next to the river, I assume it is going to be more parking for the Kroc Center, or perhaps athletic field(s).  They clearly do need more parking at Kroc.

I thoroughly enjoyed this article; but I couldn’t help but to think of alternative history. Imagine if Jesse Jackson, back in the 80’s, became the President. Greenville, and perhaps Unity Park, could’ve boasted a Presidential Library.

Maybe so, but I don't think the the trade off for us "boasting a presidential library" would outweigh the fallout from a Jackson Presidency. ;)

The Commons in Unity Park is supposed to reveal their merchants this week also, according to their Instagram.

Maybe they accidentally posted on their website too early?  I do not remember hearing about all of these businesses....

Over the next few years, Greenville will have three food halls (The Commons, Gather GVL and the Village Food Hall). Now would be an excellent time to update the Greenville development map.
