i vote nashville. but seriously, i think i would be more comfortable living in austin just because it has a similar feel to nashville. everyone is always talking about how the two are prety much sister cities.

Hands down for me it's AUSTIN. I like Austin's funky/weird vibe and its "liberal for Texas" feeling. When I'm in Charlotte it feels too conservative and uptight for such a large city.

This is correct. Dell does build its computers in the United States. I was even informed that my computer is being assembled in and shipped from Austin due to its proximity to me.

Austin is doing much better than Charlotte in building a sustainable environment. SustainLane just ranked the 50 largest cities on their sustainability index. Austin came in at #14 while Charlotte came in #34.

I think the local flatness of Charlotte is compensated by the closer proximity to a large mountain range and a beach. You can do daytrips to the mountains or the beach there, as opposed to driving all day from Austin for the same.

I wonder why Charlotte is so flat. I mean, it is located in the piedmont just as Atlanta and Birmingham. It has to be the flatest piedmont city in the south. Does something restrict its elevation from variation or something?
