I used to havbe relatives that lived in Dallas, so we'd go visit them every now and then. During our trips, we'd go to some other places in Texas like Houston and San Antonio. From my visits, I'd have to say that Corpus Christi is my favorite.

I like Galveston, especially in the winter, when the city and beaches are empty and there's a cold wind and gray cloud coming off of the water.

But Corpus is just such an interesting town. They have a better beach, but also a really cool Downtown area, a nice freeway system, and things to do. Just outright interesting too: you can be entertained by just driving around looking at things.

McAllen has been the fastest-growing out of this bunch, no?

Yes and no

It is the fastest growing metro between 2000-2005

McAllen-Edinburg-Pharr +16.04%

Laredo +14.05%

Brownsville-Harlingen +11.39%

But not the fastest growing city of those listed between 2000-2004

Brownsville +13.31%

Laredo +13.11%

McAllen +11.87%

Well, I live in Tyler, but I think Longview (which is of almost equivalent size and only about 50 miles away) is just a little bit nicer. I think it probably won't take too long for Longview to catch and surpass Tyler.

I never would have expected to see someone say they prefer Longview over Tyler.

My personal preference, of the few cities in this list I've visited, would be Tyler. I've always thought it was a decent place and I loved the fact that, until recently, its zoo was free. :D

My wife would probably vote for Midland/Odessa, given she grew up there.

The Bryan College Station area tops the list IMHO...its a great place to live.
