Was Charlotte's designed by Ellerbe Beckett?

This is a PDF format link to the events center being proposed for my city to be completed in fall 2009. The center will include space for conventions along with an ice hockey sheet for Bemidji State University games.

The design looks only to be 1 storey but the ice sheet will be set into a lower level. The idea is not to have a humongous building sitting downtown. They want it to mix in with the existing architecture. Because of its proximity to the railroad tracks and the old train depot (now a museum), it will be in that kind of style.

In order to build it they will be removing a big box retail store built in the 1960s, a fast food restaurant, and several other buildings (that are currently being emptied out). I think it will make the area look much nicer.

With Nashville looking seriously right now at spending $455 million for a new one, this thread is great for us involved in what would be right for the city. Some of these were a bit depressing, some stunning. But, for us, who are comtemplating 1.2 million sq ft in an area of town that undergoing a massive renaissance and rebuilding, I think the center in Fort Worth gave me hope. We're looking at a truly mixed use center, currently considering residential and entertainment components. The current center is fine for what it is, but Nashville, with a built in tourist draw already, could stand to benefit on a massive scale if we don't have to keep turning large meetings away because of a lack of space downtown. We're looking at two new hotels with a combined 1000 rooms to complement the 750-room Renaissance. It's unnerving, really, to think about that much money for a new downtown center. We do have the Gaylord Resort and CC a few miles from the city center with 300k of exhibit space and nearly 3000 rooms all under one roof, but downtown is the city's entertainment and business centers, so it'll be interesting to see how this all shakes out. Thanks for posting these pictures guys. It gives us much to think about.

rhode islands convention center... in Providence .. not such a great view :(

conventioncenter.jpg

The Shreveport Convention Center just opened in January at over 350,000 sq. ft. The basic design of the center is based off the one in Providence (but I perfer the color of the brick on the Providence center.)

This new convention center replaced Shreveport's old 100,000 sq. ft. center, Expo Hall, which is now being used as a soundstage for FX Networks and Disney.

The attached high-rise Hilton hotel shown in the image below is currently under construction.

The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, the second busiest convention center in the country, is about to recieve a 550,000 sq. foot expansion, bringing the total square footage of the convention center to 1.65 million. It will become the 4th largest convention center in the country, moving ahead of the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

Funny, Providence is remodeling it's Holiday in into a Hilton and connecting it to the convention center along with the Westin. The Hilton might also add an approximate 300 ft residential tower to the existing hotel, but anyways :)

Nice CC
