Sweet pix TJ. I love it when you take us on tour w/your camera.

The hotel looks great. I just wish they would put some more landscaping up on the Railroad and Gaines Street sides like they showed in the renderings. Did it look like they might add more when you were there?

I share your feelings Poonther. The only room for landscaping would have to be in the rear of the store (parking lot area, or other areas of Gaines Street. not situated directly in front of this hotel. It could be that "they" are waiting for work to commence on the Gaines Street project before they plan their landscaping. No need in doing it twice. This is, unless, they cut holes in the brick paving along Gaines and Railroad and stick plants down in those, other wise, I didn't see much room for any, which was also a disappointment to me.

I walked over and checked out the place yesterday. The rooms are the nicest I have seen in a Marriot, they look just like the pictures on their web site. Ahhhhh The sweet smell of NEW. I love the out side of the place even more than the Game Day Center all the way down to the Red Letters on the Sign, which I may add look really nice at night. Once they rid the infestation of the Power Poles and get some commercial tenants in there this will be a nice addition to this intersection. I can imagine looking down the new paver sidewalk seeing some out-door sandwich shop or cool smoothie "Jamba-Juice anyone" and seeing some nice sighns above each entrance lit up at night.

Yes JAMBA JUICE.....I could use a Mango Mantra w/an energy boost right now!

While I do go to Tropical Smoothie, I much prefer Jamba Juice.

However they aren't big in FL. I think they only have stores in South FL and Tampa Bay. None in Jax, G'ville, P'cola and I'm not even sure if they've moved into O-town yet???

Tropical Smoothie, Fire House Subs, Quiznos!!!!!!!! Im sorry guys but I am tired of more of the same here in Tallahassee, give us something diffrent for goodness sake!! I want more variety. I know I am way out on a limb here but I would like a Rascals, Cheesecake Factory, Tujuan Flats something along those lines. Make it fun.

Those places you mention sound great! I'd love to see them here also, but realistically of the places we have locally, a Quiznos, Tropical Smoothie, Firehouse are likely to succeed at a location like this. Further down the line, when Gaines Street is made over, and we've got ground floor shops, I'd love to see a Hardrock Casino and Restaurant on the Citgo corner. :P

Well I think if we got new places in the Gaines Street Corridor that would help bring people the area and start to make it click. So, I agree we need new places like Jamba Juice, Tijuana Flats, Pei Wei, etc...not another Tropical Smoothie, Quiznos, Firehouse, etc...

I think he said the Room was $140 a night. All appliances were top of the line ans stainless steel. Counter top in Kitchen was Marble and there was also a cool desk in the kitchen as well.

Thanks for the interior shots. I like the look of those rooms. The furnishings seem to make it feel more like a boutique hotel than just a cutter-cookie chain motel.

Did you notice if they've done any landscaping to the front of the hotel along RR or Gaines? I went to the Gaines Street Vitalization Committee meeting and they were just as appalled by the bare and sterile front as I was and stated that the problem was going to be correct.

I also learned at this meeting that they will be landscaping Gaines hopefully by the end of the year. This landscaping will be placed and selected so it can remain when the street and sidewalks are upgraded. They are using the Elm trees (I think that is what they are....you can see them behind City Hall along Duval and all over town) some Crappy Myrtles and my favorite Sabal Palms.

^ Thanks for the interior shots of your friends room mracca. Although, I'm really surprised they didn't go with Plasma or LCD TV's unless I'm mistaken by what I saw in your shot.

^ poonther, I think those are called Drake Elms & you do see them all over town. That will look nice once done. Now we just need to get this hotel to jump on board with some landscaping.

Thats was my only complaint, concerning the TV. Every new hotel IMHO should have a flat screen. I mean come on, you cant hardly even buy tube TV's at the store anymore. Plus they aren't that expensive like they used to be. My brother just purchased a 20"LCD for $200.

As far as the Landscapping........ it still looks like crap, you know why? Cause there isn't any! Maybe they are waiting for the construction of Gaines street to start and figure that it may hinder the Landscaping, exp if they invest too much money into it. I am just guessing. Just getting rid of the Cluster f#$% of Power lines would do this place a world of good.

So the city sold the corner stone lot on Gaines Street to a hotel that didn't even landscape?

Great job again city of Tally :shok:

I have no expectations of Gaines Street being much at all....and I have no idea why it takes 15 years for that. Our local govt is simply incompetent.
