Yeah, even though it's nothing compared to what's going on in the major cities in the state, Rock Hill has some nice construction/renovation projects going on in and around downtown. There's either a new apartment or townhome development just outside of downtown that's nearing completion; I need to try to get a shot of that soon.

On the flip side, unfortunately, the city lost a landmark recently. The community theater, which was housed in the 100+ year old West Main Baptist Church, burned last week.

Seems like the entire Textile Corridor project comes a bit closer to becoming reality as time goes on.

After years of bickering and delays, leaders from City Hall, York County and the Rock Hill school district finally have reached an accord to spend roughly $40 million on public infrastructure ranging from new streets and landscaping to a greenway and parking deck.

Developer Lynn Stephenson, whose company owns the old Rock Hill Printing & Finishing site in the heart of the corridor, is about to announce plans to turn the property, known to most as the Bleachery, into upscale townhouses and condos, as well as shops, restaurants and offices. The plan to be presented to the City Council calls for about 70 percent of the Bleachery site to be torn down to make way for residences, retailers and offices. The entire project could take between eight and 10 years, with the total investment pegged at around $100 million.

A TIF is being looked at as a possible way (the preferred way, actually) to fund infrastructure improvements.

Yes it will. It's actually hard to believe that something that has sat vacant for so long will finally have some life breathed into it. It will also be interesting to see how this spurs development on the land around the mill as well.

I see the other major gap that requires development is east of Rock Hill along Dave Lyle. Though - it is picturesque, but between the late 80's office park, southern end of Winthrop Farm & downtown, it seems rather dead.
