Burger King headquarters to stay in Miami-Dade

This is the building that Burger King presently occupies. It fronts State Road 836 by Miami International Airport. Their previous headquarters was in South Dade, in the Cutler area fronting the bay. That building was severely damaged and flooded after Hurricane Andrew.

Burger King goes to Gables

An incentive package of $8.68 million keeps Burger King from leaving the only home it has known since the company's founding in 1954.

Burger King's ability to keep its headquarters in Miami-Dade County came down to a matter of dollars and cents.

Chief Executive Greg Brenneman said Thursday that without the $8.68 million incentive package crafted by Miami-Dade County and the state of Florida, the company would have been forced to relocate to Texas.

The incentive package, which included the assistance of Gov. Jeb Bush, made it possible for Burger King to announce plans Thursday to move by fall of 2008 to a new corporate headquarters in Coral Gables. Developer Armando Codina will build the 250,000-square-foot facility at 2701 S. Le Jeune Road, the site of the current City National Bank of Florida building....
